    AVG REMAINS FREE!!!

Look carefully on the AVG web site and select the lastest version(7.5) which is still free… At first glance it DOES look as though one will have to subscribe…but it is not so!!.. Best wishes D.J.

Such a huge response to this original observation must mean something?.. Politically it will eventually be concluded with ‘many words’ falling short of directly accusing anyone!.. There is too much at risk for it to be any other!… Best wishes ..D.J.

    Re 737 Rudders mods

Hi John…Go into http://www.Boeing 737 Technical Site…all the info’ you require is within…I have myself been very concerned at the situation extant ..but have been assured, all UK a/c are complying to the latest ‘instructions’ from Boeing.. regards David..

Reading recently about a number of incidents / accidents during the 1990s which were allegedly caused by rudder jams. I understand that the FAA have issued an airworthiness directive which requires compliance by 2008.

Just wondered, does this apply to UK aircraft and if so, does anyone know what the status of the UK fleet is in this regard?

    Thanks in advance

    John

    NIce presentation Tom!

I enjoyed your description of the flight well done… Now tell me(I’m a simple old soul) how do you place photos on this site… I have just had an interesting trip to PMI with Flybe from Exeter in bad weather and would like to share the take off scenes…

Title says it all really 🙂 . I won’t tell the story in detail of my flight up to Glasgow with easyJet, other to say that it was on G-EZDC, it was 10 minutes early and it was an excellent flight.

Now onto what I came for, the Embraer 195 G-FBEA:

After spending a little while wandering around Glasgow Airport, it was finally time to go through to gate 17, where G-FBEA arrived on schedule from Birmingham at 1215. The PAX load was quite low, for both my flight to BHX and the one from BHX, so boarding started at 1230. I was greeted by very friendly cabin crew and whilst waiting for departure, I listened to the Flybe boarding music, consisting of 3 songs, 2 of which being ‘Valerie’ by The Zutons and ‘Fill My Little World’ by The Feeling 🙂 . Boarding was done within 10 minutes and the captain came on and did his usual talk, saying how we’d be cruising at 27000ft and our route was towards Carlisle and Manchester. That done, we pushed back at 1250.

The safety demo was done and we followed a Travel City Direct 747-300 to runway 23 (I think), where after a short delay to allow the 747s wake turbulence to go, we lined up and went. The engines seemed quite loud on 195, louder than I’d expected but it shot down the runway and the climb performance seemed impressive. We flew away into clouds, which lined most of the route:

It was a short flight of only 50 minutes but there was still plenty of time for the cabin service to happen. I’ve found Flybe to be very efficient in doing this and the crew much more polite than any other airline. Descent started just before 1330 and we flew downwind to runway 33 at Birmingham:

After a nice hard touchdown 5 minutes early, we wizzed back to the stand and parked up next to a Dash 8.

Just time after that to take this:

    Enjoy. 🙂

I believe Flightline a/c are used by anyone who wants charter it..Palmair used to use the aircraft for their flights to Palma etc..but now only use the 737/200.The 146 is a lovely safe and comfortable plane..Of DH stock of course!…very practical and now reasonably cost effective to maintain with the latest engines..A pity there is not more of them about!!..

    theMD11/DC10 saga

It was a United DC10 and the Airport was Sioux City Iowa

Thanks Steve…I guessed you would know..this has certainly brought out a few interesting views concerning a well established airplane maker..Just what this forum is all about.(Kind regards, David)..That incident was recreated I recall on TV and included the actual crash using newsreel’film’..

one reason the MD11 apparently ‘failed commercially.

I have just one question which I’m curious about, but why didn’t the MD-11 never really take off (no pun intended…)?

You don’t exactly see much of them around and a lot of the ones that there are have been converted to cargo aircraft. What made me ask this is that a few days ago I saw the video of the Palma de Mallorca to Amsterdam Martinair MD-11 flight (one of the ‘ITVV’ series, I believe).

Its predecessor the DC-10 was a plane you seemed to see a lot more of.

The Boeing 777 came along ..and three engines went out of fashion..despite the mods that made the MD11 a ‘good ‘a/c after the disasterous hydraulics problem and fatalites following the amazing approach using just the two engines power..(the airport’s name escapes me at the moment..but someone will surely know?)..MD of course was absorbed by Boeing..another reason..

Thanks for your efforts I too, cannot find the actual cost..’Company Confidential’ they say!.. It always has been a very volatile game..(excuse the pun)! Way back in the 50s I was involved in obtaining samples of Russian fuel from a TU 154..It turned out to be far superior in quality than any of ‘ours’ at the time..That caused quite a ‘stir’..

    super photos!

Most people think of Farnborough as busy for two weeks every other year with a huge international airshow, and for the 2 years in between nothing happens apart from a few biz jet movements. Whilst that might have been the case 5 years ago Farnborough is seriously on the up, and in terms of movements is similar to many of the regional airports such as Belfast City and Southampton.

Today was a very good example of the diversity and interest that Farnborough can bring, with several airliner types intermingling with the vast amounts of biz jets. Business aviation doesnt seem to interest a great deal of people these days, so instead of bombarding you with all the pictures of Citations etc here are my photos over the last few days of the airliner types we have been recieving, intermingled with a few nice biz jets as well 😀

First off is an Eastern Saab 2000 that positioned in from Norwich, and departed out as a charter to Belfast City, not sure if AndrewM has pics from the other end or not.

Next is a G4, in old Saudi Arabian Airlines colours departing to Geneva:

Dornier 328JETs are quite common here, Austrian ones often dominating:

A Global Express operated by the same Company as the first J328:

And finally a member of the Royal Family departing to Manchester:

My mate from uni was the co-pilot, F/L Andrew Smith, and one of my best freinds dated him for a year. Its a scary small world at times, and this news has been close to home.

Im very very sad, as he was such a smashing bloke. He was loud, tall and had to fight the girls off with a stick, and as such seemed born to be a fighter pilot. He did the UAS at lancaster the same time I was doing the OTC, so we all new each other in the uni forces organisations. He got chopped from fighters before going onto multis. I lost touch with him after he went to Cranwell, but all the same this last week hasnt been a good one, especially when I remember nights out at uni & joint UAS/OTC functions.

I am very sorry Tom B..I too lost many friends I had in uni(Bristol 1958) in stupid conflicts we seem to get in volved in over the years..Iraq was under our control in the 30s…remember..and now we are paying the price! All very sad and unnecessary..(Ommaroo DJ )
