Whiskey Delta ..Point taken..but my days were the ‘good old ones ‘where the really important crew member,(the Flight Engineer) kept things together!..With the a/p engaged anything could happen!

Re Britannia a/c
Hi there! Nice to see the good old Brit again…a pity it was delayed by BOAC and allowed the 707 to be come commercial!..The reverse flow intake and icing problems was the excuse used at the time ..Ah well!..never mind..its water under the bridge now..What camera did you use for those lovely shots by the way?..
Super photos! Are they taken through glass? What camera do you use?Down here in the sticks there are no International carriers…you are very lucky! Cheers David(old timer 45 years in Aviation)..
Hotel near Renia Sofia TFS south..
Have you or anyone else stayed at El Medano a village near the airport??:Good for photography I understand..
unidentified a/c
It looks like a Russian a/c to me..or maybe a Spanish Casa?? Where was it taken??
Saudi Flights home
Hello there!..Way back in 1978 I left Dhahran on a VC10(BOAC)then of course..The flight was most pleasent with ‘real’ attention from the flight staff!..It being almost the final flight of this a/c I was given a full set of toiletries, aftershave etc etc and still have them to this day!.A beautiful aircraft,so quiet for its day!.Have spent 45 years in various capacities with Bristols, Rolls and BAe..Could write a book! I still mourn over the way our politicians ’emasculated’ the British Aircraft Industry..As regards airports ..I’ve lost count, but memorable ones include Washington National(now Ronald Regan International)before the overflying restrictions of course! Also Karachi, when a Super Connie Dennis Compton was on(en route to Aussie land),had a collapsed u/c and subsequently during the repair the resident BOAC Rep was killed when the air bag suddenly vented!!That was in 1954..I reckon I should be a ‘Senior ‘member of this thread incidentally!..Frankfurt too, holds many memories want to know more..and are there any other’oldies’ out there??Surprised nobody has responed to this piece..am I alone?
RE: aeroplane smell
Hi Mike! I love the characteristic smell of an aircraft!!A combination of cooking smells from the micro -wave ovens masks the hydraulic’leaks’ Hi! (I’m only joking)Having been associated with aircraft in various capacities up front, for many years and now retired, the’odour’of an aircraft to me is’heaven’even now as I fly as a passenger!..Incidentally I note on the opening page an illustration of a magazine entitled ‘Airports’but nowhere can I find it …Can you ,or anyone help me locate a copy??cheers, David
RE: Captain’s seat
Hi! No the seat to which you refer really is not too comfortable..but one does have plenty of adjustment afor obvious reasons..The firmness of the material is deliberate especially when you are strapped in tightly…Cheers David(an old timer now!)..
