Cmon guys this is the NICE MMRCA thread…
I just worry about all the sniping thats going to happen after this announcement.
Both aircraft have met the India’s criteria, both should be rightly proud of that, and the loser won’t be a bad aircraft by any means.
It’s all just costs now.. if they are close it will take a while, if its a big price gap well know real soon.
Apparently the bids are being opened at 0900 GMT.
Cheers
Caveat – being a Typhoon fan I have fingers crossed that OH MERDE! is heard!!
😉
:)anyway, i feel its important to wish all sides best of luck for tomorrow. Its actually a moment of great import and whatever happens I have enjoyed arguing the toss with everyone over the years…..
🙂
Me too…
I wonder how the news will be released? – will Eurofighter GmbH crack open some champagne if they win (is that too cruel) or Will the French unfurl a banner at Waterloo station if they win!
what would be the cruellest way to announce it?
Either way there will be some lower lips quivering after the news is announced.
Bonne Chance to all.
So does this mean that EF bid will be already without 7% export levy?
There would be two prices, one as a partner nation and one as a export customer, I would imagine the partner nation price one would be the one offered.
Tranche 3A saw a big push for savings in maintenance costs in the Typhoon program, the UK was looking at 30% reduction before contracts were signed.
Cheers
You seem to be missing the point of partner status. It’s up to India. It can buy Eurofighter without accepting the offer of partnership, & deal with Eurofighter GMBH & one government. Or it can accept partner status, & have the same say in any deal as the existing partners, not a one customer/four suppliers ganged up against it relationship. It’s India’s choice: one supplier, or four partners.
Partner status also confers some other benefits..
Its allows the offer to be significantly cheaper, Eurofighter is not allowed allowed to sell aircraft to export countries cheaper than partner members, so the consortium can get the Typhoon at cost, i.e without the ~7% export levy.
So there are big cost implications to partnership but will it be enough to be the L1 bid?
Cheers
I envy your optimism.
LOL its certainly one close race, whoever wins this race the other party can be rightly proud of their achievements.
As a confirmed Typhoon fan I would congratulate the Dassault team if they won!! and yes I do think it’s a possibility for EADs to undercut Dassault in costs, but we will have to wait and see.
I think this is one very exciting competition that other nations will benchmark against.
Good luck to all (with a slight bias to Typhoon of course:))
My monies on #1.
I wonder if this was a 1v1 head on scenario.
Because previously the idea was to have two Typhoons separated by enough distance so one could get a side view of the JSF of >15 deg allowing them to detect the JSF from a much longer distance!!.
Interesting figures there Toan – thanks
edit : btw, aren’t the current british royals german in origin ? 😀
NEIN.. Ve haf ein Englander – heil Lizzie.
There isn’t much difference, but since each Rafale is cheaper, 126 Rafale must be damn les expensive than 126 Typhoon. 😀
As I understand it its not just purchase price.
There’s a component for ToT, upkeep, and offsets.
The way they price the ToT and Upkeep will be crucial to determine which is cheaper.
JSF an effective, frontline multi-role fighter from day one of IOC
lol
That was in 2008 wasn’t it..
and it shows that the concept of having it all on day one is flawed.
You were asking what advantage Britain gained by not adopting the euro. Answer: sovereignty over interest rates. There is one interest rate set for the entire euro zone. Inevitably, the interest rate set by the European Central Bank is too high for some national economies and too low for others. Britain’s central bank can set interest rates tailored to suit the needs of the British economy.
Exactly the same thing should apply to american states, they are larger than some European economies, and some of the large ones are also broke!! (California!)
Sorry man…
BAE reveals dramatic cut to Typhoon production rate
Not quite the whole story…. as Jo mentions above-
BAE said the four partner nations in the Eurofighter Typhoon program — the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain — were slowing production rates to help ease their budget pressures, affecting the workload at a number of sites.
The company, one of the largest prime contractors in the U.S, said production was also slowing on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jet, a U.S. program led by Lockheed Martin for which BAE produces the tailplane.
“Pressure on the U.S. defense budget and top level program changes mean the anticipated increase in F-35 production rates will be slower than originally planned, again impacting on our expected workload,” said BAE in a statement on Tuesday.
Cheers
Hmm if the slowdown in Typhoon orders is the reason for the cuts – when can we expect the Typhoon partner nations to also cut their workforces as much as BAE??
cheers
Indeed, very strange. Eurofighter GmbH have stressed many of times that a lot of work force on the Typhoon programme would move from Europe to India if they select this aircraft…However they didn’t say “where from” & “which” companies. 20,000+ Indian jobs to be found that would work on the Typhoon, quite a lot to get a hold of…
I hadn’t thought of that.. makes sense, but the timing is suspect, what could be transferred relatively quickly i.e in the next 12 months.
Software is the only area that springs to mind.
maybe they are trying to link the UK’s stated desire to retain sovereign capabilities in aircraft design and manufacture to their struggling land sector and are hoping that the MoD will step in with a big order of say FRES UV, which will drive up their margins and “allow” them to retain operations at Warton subsidised by their profits from Land Systems.
The threat is directed at aircraft sites, It just seems to me that BAE have just found out there is going to be a drop in work, Typhoon work is steady for a couple of years even for the long lead time items (~18 months), the big question is whats prompted this now?
JSF budget tweaks?

Interesting piece here…
BAE are not say where the 3000 cuts are to be made, but the press are saying Warton where the Eurofighter is assembled.
Thats strange because the number of Eurofighters isnt changing that much right now, but there is another jet that BAE is currently ramping up for that may be delayed… The JSF, (hmmm any takers for this idea???), you’d think they would need more engineeers to be moved over to JSF production, very strange.
cheers
Things seem to be looking good for the Typhoon in this part of the world, too.
Looking good is all fine and dandy, its just a question of converting it into orders and thats the difficult bit.
Rest assured there are diplomatic shenanigans running all over the place.
Japan is such a difficult market to break into, they have been tied to American equipment since the US occupied Japan in 1945, so history is not on the Europeans side.
