I used to like r.a.m. and s.m.n. but they kept getting swamped with spam so I quit going there. I really liked the places. Lots of REAL pilots. Ah well. 🙁 (LOL, I had to chuckle at Mary’s comment.)
I just realised how far we go back!!, we should be sitting on the porch and yelling at strangers!! LOL
LOL.. Man I’m looking forward to 2025 but I won’t hold my breath, Ten Years ago I bet a beer on usenet over the Typhoon supercruising, and I never got it- blooming Killjoys and Cheapskates says I……In fact Mr Sferrin was involved in that usenet thread!!!
I blamed it on people hiding behind their Usernames..
But this bet is such a no brainer, anyone else want to take JackJack up on his “free booze for everyone” bet..
I would love to take that wager (If you mean what I think you mean).
To paraphrase – Do you mean the RAF will operate the JSF as the Hi end of a High Low mix with the Typhoon being the Low end even for air defence???
If thats so then I wager a decent bottle of rum.:)
But I fear that if the UK doesn’t buy it as you fortell, then you may still interpret it as a successful sale and a bet won due to some twisted logic….
You must admit that your definitions of successful/doing well/affordable are somewhat different to the norm.
Cheers
How many times is it newsworthy? How many times do we need to hear the same story? And when they get the thing under control and it enters service and the pilots and maintainers love it will Bill be telling us about it? Nope. When it goes into exercises and dominates will Bill tell us week after week how fantastic the jet is? Nope.
Just till you start believing it, the bad news hasn’t ended just yet.
Bill will of course report it when its under control, just as he would report Unicorns stampeding through the whitehouse, Bill didn’t get the JSF in trouble, so don’t shoot the messenger.
The reason why some here keep ‘banging on’ about it is because people like you refuse to see whats blooming obvious.
The JSF program is in trouble, it has been shown to be in trouble, $600m in withheld funds, sackings, delays and huge budget blowouts, its like ENRON with wings.
The good news thats being peddled at the moment is its not technical problems with the JSF, this is quite humourous if you look at underlying reasons why.
Technical issues tend to be ‘revealed’ in testing, little testing = little problems. perhaps if they cancelled all testing they could go straight to IOC with zero problems, viola! a successfully completed program.
The JSF is going to have a bad year, just accept it, we all know it is unlikely to be killed as there is no plan B, but I see little evidence at this stage of the program is any different to the F-22.
Just sit back watch the show and wincelaugh (depending on your persuasion) at the bad bits to come.
Cheers
according to you, isnt the international version 95% wrong and 5% right 😀
even though it has been stated all are the same
International partner versions Hmmm. how best explain that they can be 100% the same, but still different.
Lets say you bought a house exactly the same as your neighbour, but your neighbour has the keys to the locked two back rooms and you are not allowed to have those keys in your possession, or even look into the windows of those rooms.
The houses are exactly the same, you just can’t access them ‘at will’ in the same way.
Now Imaging you have a very pretty nymphomaniac gymnastic student turn up with a desperate need of a room.
Both you and your neighbour want her to stay in their respective houses, do you think you could trust your neighbour to ‘find’ the spare keys in time, or do you think he might just use it to his advantage.
Now imagine your neighbour isn’t known for his alturistic personality and has spent $2 billion on making sure you don’t get the keys.
Now apply that to the JSF, The only difference is who’s going to get screwed.:D
Cheers
I perused the November report at
http://www.cdi.org/pdfs/2009-11LMFWJSF.pdf
I like the handwritten comment next to the chart: “ergo a/c are built 5% wrong and that’s OK?” 🙂
International partner versions??? 😉
oh? are you saying India will pull a Brasil on us? :diablo:
That sounds painful…
India has certain requirements with regard to her neighbours, look at what her neighbours have and then look at what aircraft would be best suited to beat them.
Then look at ToT, then look at politics.
I think this is the order of preference, and if it is thi scould be a very interesting competition.
cheers
I find it funny in the report that the JSF of the future was compared directly to the aircraft as they were in 2000.
But having said that I want to see the full report as newspapers sometimes give a somewhat biased perspective.

Source :- JSF DTSO Evaluation
The document uses highly undiplomatic language to trash the performance of the warplanes used by Australia’s closest allies.
Anyone have the complete copy?

If your going to look at the X-35 as the starting point in the F-35 program, then you must include the EAP into the Typhoon’s timeline also. That puts the Typhoon timeline from 1982-2003.. 21 years.
Well you should go by the expected in service date and the actual in service date for both.
The Typhoon was +54 months, what’s the JSF running at now?
cheers
My mistake.. 😉
Oh My..It makes the chances of the British escaping even more remote.. (you can spot the dirt from the tunnels easier from the air ) 😀
Cheers
As far as I know the guys were simply listening to civilian ATC chatter.
But the UK does have two combat jets there now!!:D
I’m not worried about a month or 2. Even if alleged disastrous news is revealed, I think the F-35 program is bulletproof…
I have sufficently recovered from my BBQ and drinkup..
It certainly is cast iron at the moment (there is no plan B!), But I remember a time when the F-22 seem to be made of teflon… I think there will be a couple of reports that will not be welcomed in the next few weeks, and then theres the usual grace period ( 12 months) where the program lurches from one hiccup to another while the spin doctors say lets wait till the latest changes go through the system.
So heres my prediction – very bumpy in the next two months and then very exciting in and around 14 months when some partners will be cornered.
Don’t know what you’re referring to here, mate…
Just wondering – Whats your thoughts on the JSF UPC price at which the program start to fall apart, or at what date do the partners opt out because its too late? some in the program would find it easier than others to opt out..
I.e UPC= US$110m and another 18 months!
Cheers
Thanks Tmor I went back a page or two to look but missed that.
Thanks
Are these prices accurate for the rafale??

I thought it was quite a bit cheaper, and quite surprised at the Tigre too.
Cheers
