There isn’t any apparent design features on the intake of Taranis that would suggest that its supersonic, the engine that is installed would require those features to work at +M1

I can’t see intake bleed spill vents or anti shock wave shaping on the intake…. but there are very few frontal pictures to check.

    Cheers

We don’t rely on the Toronto news or the Wollongong post for details on aviation

LOL I must admit I did rely on a paper from Wollongong for aviation news recently… the 747 landing at Wollongong airport.. Surprised you know about Wollongong!!:D

    Cheers

Its been projected at 1,424 from around 2008 and AFAIK was first mentioned by http://www.airpower.at/news06/0922_captor-e/index.html.
The cost then was estimated at 1.5M euros.

Its not in the RFP its in the Original Tender/Air Staff Qualitative Requirements (ASQR).

The GoI require them to abide by the process where they got to be L1, one of the gates to getting there was the ASQR if they didn’t accept that ASQR they would not have progressed.

Dassault get to L1 and then say the stuff they said they would comply with in the ASQR isn’t relevent now because its not in the RFP.

So while Dassault are technically correct that condition isn’t in the RFP, its has been part of the conditions for entry to and part of the evaluations of the MMRCA.

So do they want to sell it to India bad enough.

If you think it is, please explain the mechanism by which Dassault can make HAL perform.

Thats for Dassault to explain as they were the ones saying they complied with the RFP to get to L1 position.

If they had to add $$$ to the bid price as insurance/mitigation against HAL’s performance then they should have done so at that stage and not at the subsequent post L1 negotiations.

Perhaps other bidders added their $$$ to to their price to cover such forseeable issues and were thus not selected as L1.
What should happen if that were the case? ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the fact that an ’empowered delegation’ is on the way… who the hell was negotiating for the last 3 years then?

Interestingly the shape of the Captor-e WFoR has a more cruciform shape on the protective orange cover than the previous models displayed, those older ones were more octagonal.

re the number of TR modules – There was some work done on sparse population of the array, whereby the array had a number of modules missing distributed over the face with little or no loss in resolution.

The balance of cost and resolution was considered and tested, but I don’t know if it was implemented.

The plan is for all hardware to be the same for all partners, but additional software modes may be different, electronic attack is one area the UK is keen to exploit, other are free to exploit national areas of interest.

It was sortof part of the original design, the wing was supposed to be a cranked delta design, but the decision was made to go with the straight edge because it was much easier to manufacture thus reducing costs, and the area where the Typhoon is optimised for is the supersonic air attack arena and not the lower altitude turning and burning dog fight, in fact if a Typhoon (or any other modern fighter) ever gets into that situation then something must have gone very wrong.

While a cranked delta may be even more efficient at lower speeds the LERX goes some way towards it without the compromising the aircrafts primary design function.

The original customers had shown little interest in CFT’s so the bigger question is why now?, is this a request from a new customer perhaps.

    cheers

Contracted Test Pilots………….and none have claimed the Typhoon is better than the F-35 or they would even prefer the former. Unless you have something to share???

LOL can’t name any names – it would be a career ending move, you could only say it anonymously….. ๐Ÿ™‚
