I served two tours there and it would be one of he new guy wind- ups to have them sit in a Landrover at the end of the runway to stand the penguins up after the planes had passed over their heads and landed……..
Good job Neil.
Not sure which day I’ll be going on , but let me know and we can meet up and I can initiate you in the traditional Tim Horton’s coffee and breakfast bagel before we set off. :p
Am I right in thinking that Long Branch refers to the factory in Toronto?
If so, I work in Toronto and the remains of the factory are still visible from the main road that passes it.
Hi All,
I’m an ex-pat Brit who lives in Burlington, so I can vouch for Bill’s comment.
I went to the show last year and the transport was very well organised. As you approach the airport that’s sign-posted off the QEW, you’re directed to a large field where a fleet of school buses are waiting to take you into the airfield. The buses run in and out continually so you won’t get stranded.
Renting a car is the best bet and the hotel should have the contacts for you.
The only thing I noticed about Hamilton and Duxford’s displays is that there are sometimes long gaps of time between displaying aircraft, but thats the only niggle and it’s not really a big deal!
Maybe we can all meet up, just pack a Union Jack!
D’oh! Having trouble posting, what does ‘051.jpg upload failed’ mean?
Flying ours in Canada!
Flying ours in Canada!
Aah, I see. Wonder when the detachment proper starts.
Fascinating stuff.
To add to Walrus’ memories, I did two tours of RAFG as a service policeman. After dispatching the Jaguars and Tornadoes on their one-way trips, we would, apparently, escort what dependants were left to the UK bound ferries and THEN return to what was left of our bases to assist with absentees and deserters-a euphimism for firing squads – cheerful stuff eh?

That has to be a display kite, surely they’re not going up with just one ASRAAM? Nice shots though, thanks.
Got my ticket online.
Will there be separate motor-cycle parking?
Looking foward to it already!
Again another thread knocking the Police.
Maybe some of you should ask to go out with these ‘scruffy oiks’ for a night, walk a mile in their shoes and all that.
Lincoln 7, when you served, the world was a different place. I wonder how many crack addicts with HIV you had to deal with.
But coppers doing their job never makes the news so why should I be suprised that an ill-informed few pounce on the things that go wrong and critisize people doing a job that they themselves are incapable of doing.
After twenty-three years, this sort of thing shouldn’t bother me anymore but everyone has a breaking point.
Don’t worry, I won’t be checking this thread again.

Well said AutoStick!
