Warbird
Well said, its criminal that the last 5 BA Concorde,s have at least 5 Years life left in them, and are to be grounded. Airbus pulled the plug probably because BA told them to, just to stop Richard Branson showing them (BA) how to operate to a profit.
BA are TO BIG, TO CR&P, and SELF CENTRED.
Unfortunately because there’s no love lost between Virgin and BA Its without a doubt what the problem is, I would have no doubt that Virgin even at £1 million each could still find a way to make a profit, he would find routes and people would fly in them.
WE will never know how much people paid to get a Concorde, but I bet its a tidy penny. Thats Tax payers property getting sold off by the way.
As many have already said , BA are shameful.
Come on guys, its common knowledge amongst the civil enthusiast fraternity where they are going to end up.
East Fortune are getting on sent up north by barge
Manchester Airport will get one
Filton will get one
The Intrepid museum in New York are to put one on a barge
Seattle will get one
another to Barbados
My point is this, Duxford should have one to tell the complete story, after all it,s the centre of the universe as far as vintage aircraft is concerned, fair enough though if the money is not there.
Remember also that BA have their own museum of sorts at Cosford, so why is none being put one in there (via Shawbury of course).
My big bitch is that 3 will are going to end up in the US, its the last place they should go, Concorde was a BRITISH/FRENCH effort, the Americans tried every trick in the book to stop it.
Concorde should stay in Europe.
All
The big point about the Concorde retirement is where they will end up.
Intrepid museum in New York
Seattle in USA
Plus an Air France one somewhere else
It unbelievable that they should let any retire to the States, after all the tirades the aircraft was subjected to in its early days, through pure jealousy that Boeing could not make theirs work.
It stinks of who paid most.
And what about the UK, why East Fortune, and why not Duxford (the version there already is not reflective of the aircraft now). Corcorde hardly visited Scotland
Manchester is OK because that airport encourages enthusiates.
Filton is OK as well, the people of Bristol should be proud of their acheivements.
GG
BA ought to be ashamed of themselves
The plans for XK532 are as follows,
1, Get the aircraft into a presentable condition, (well on the way)
2, Ensure as far as possible it is water tight, (again well in hand)
3, Restore the rear cockpit, quite a big job as it is virtually barren, any spare parts gratefully accepted.
4, Restore front cockpit, (again well in hand)
5, Get hydraulic power restored
6, Get Electrical power restored
7, Have her acessable by the public.
As for the IFR, it is quite a complicated mechanism, which apparently is operated by a pneumatic system, we are currently unable to release the door mechanism, due to lack of accurate drawings (again any help here would be appreciated)
The aircraft has quite a bit of surface corrosion on the main legs, and a little on the Mag Alloy panels, but these can easily be hidden , once under the skin the aircraft is in remarkable condition with virtually no corrosion present,
Both engines are still fitted, and both turn,
A big task but one worth tackling.
If anyone has anything they would like to donate please send me a PM and I will reply.
GG
My vote goes to XK532 a Mk.1once of Lossiemouth Gate at Inverness, she is in great nick and will soon be even better
