The F-4s Phantoms in the later years were the most attractive of all the Phantoms espically the paint schemes designed by ferris (I hope thats right?)
Now that the drone version of the F-4s has been retired what is the Navy using now as full scale drones?
South Korea joining up with China?….Yea right!
Japan and Korea might have some major differences but in the end America will force both countries to deal with any differences in an effort to put up a block against future Chinese military growth in the region.
Both Japan and Korea are weary of China than of each other
I can’t understand it either, we (Australia) would be better off with this little beast, and the less said about the RNZN the better. I mean they usually buy UK stuff anyway, so why the SH-2G? And don’t tell me it was to keep down the budget costs of the Anzacs, cause I don’t belive that smeg, nor would anyperson with reasonable intelligence!
As for Egypt and Poland, US arms deal packages, there was no room there for theses navies to negotiate!
When push comes to shove, don’t stand near a cliff
Bit harsh that comment about the RNZN Mr Ja Worsley?
Do I detect a bit of jealously at the fact that our new build Seasprites are doing a hell of a lot better than yours?
Scooters point is valid and makes sense, compare all branches of the U.S military of today to the military of the 50s,60s,70s and well into the 80s when there were so many different aircraft,it must have been a nightmare with such a wide variety of aircraft.
The U.S airforce of the 70s had F100s,F105s,A-7s,F-4s,F104s,F106s,F-15s,F-16s,F111s,A-10s and the list goes on,keeping such a large variety of aircraft flight worthy must have a logistics nightmare and must have been bloody expensive, today the fighter element centres around 4 types with 1 type the Stealth Fighter on its way out and 2 new types entering service or in development.
The lest variety of aircraft be it fighter, transport or chopper is good for the taxpayer and for the man ordering the spare parts but it has to be balanced with the right aircraft doing the right job
Beaut pics mates!!
Phantom11 is going to love them!
My mission in life is to go to Europe before the Germans retire the Spook and see and hear this amazing beautiful planes in the flesh, cheers for posting those pics
How many are going to be rebuilds and how many brand new airframes?
NZ is spending near on 1 Billion dollars for 8 NH-90s to replace 14 UH-1Hs!!!!
The goverments say that as the NH-90 is bigger can haul more etc 8 can do the job of 14….BULL****!!
Im an ex gun-slinging grunt and the NZ Defence Force struggles with only having 14 Hueys at its disposal,im sure that for the amount we are spending on the NH-90 we couldve had more Hueys,im completly pro American and Australian but we only brought the NH-90 to keep the Ozzies happy.
We struggle to keep our brand new LAVs going,..again a case of going out and buying the most expensive when the old M113 APC with a full upgrade program would do a better job along with the army already farmilar with the baseline M113.
Time will tell if the upgraded Hueys etc will perform but my money is on the Huey and Cobra having the last laugh
Phantom11 arguements are exactly the same that I have in regard to our purchase of NH-90s to replace our UH_1H,I personally thought that trying to buy the upgraded Huey and maybe even the Cobra would make more sense in the fact that we have the infastructure and know-how on the basic Huey airframe,my personal thinking is that brand new and high tech and bloody expensive doesnt mean its the best.
Im not sure of the price of these new Hueys but it must be a lot cheaper than the unit price of the NH-90 and for the amount that we are spending we couldve gotin a tad more Hueys and maybe the Cobra, sure the NH-90 lifts and hauls more than the Huey but NZ doesnt need an over the top Euro chopper when a proven design such as the Huey has done the job extremley well and the upgraded version can step up to the plate even better
Anyone got any idea the average Flight hours on the the Jag airframe?
Get the feeling through watching and reading many articles regarding China and her massive arms buildup and the arms race that has or is starting in the region containing China,Japan and South Korea,Malaysia,Indonesia etc that this is a future trouble spot in the making,Australia is ramping her forces up,India is on the pace also I just get the feeling that my country NZ has really made the wrong decision in scrapping the Combat Wing…I remember as a 14 year old during Desert Storm GW Bush senior talking about a new world order,of peace etc but the opposite has happened, the arms race world wide is huge!!
I really do hope that Japan gets the Raptor in the near future, she is a trusted ally and friend of the U.S and with Chinas massive build up in the region we need allies to provide a line of defence against China,In the region surronding China we have India with a really potent force,South korea with her new F15s and if Japan gets the Raptor thats a strong line of defence against China and throw in Australia which is hopefully in line for the Raptor (hopefully)
While the price of the Raptor will go down,USAF will get more units, more jobs etc the U.S goverment be they Democrats or Republican will take into account the threat China poses when decieding if Japan gets the Raptor
Its a shame that they wont release these planes to the public, what harm in doing this? they are old frames that even China wouldnt even glean any worth while info outa of!..its a shame
MATE!!!! your so lucky to see and hear such classic planes such as the Phantom and the Starfighter,I relly envy you and cheers for the pics
My wishlist for my country NZ is..
Combined all 3 services with Australia under the ANZAC tradition.
Id be more than happy to see Superhornets and the F-35 crewed by joint OZ and Kiwi pilots!
IMHO, rags like the AFM (WHOSE PARENT COMPANY OWNS AND OPERATES THIS FORUM) should stick to showing photos from exercises & air shows and not in fanciful speculations as to purchases and “revolutionary effects.”
Third World Air Forces do not need mediocre second-line fighter aircraft, they need social programs and political stability, which are two things that cannot be offered by an FC-1 or any military combat aircraft. The money is better spent of transport helos (ex UH-60, NH-90, Mi-17) and light cargo planes (ex: C-235/295, Y-12, Cessna Caravan).
Wrong web site to be preaching that mate
