I can’t argue with anything in Bhoys post. I think he has this one sussed!
Kabir-We don’t know that they ARE going to change the fleet do we? I am only passing on information given to me by a fairly senior EI employee.
Although I now no longer work in the airline industry I still have many contacts within it , including an EI station manager down here. She seems certain that EI will remain in the Airbus fold. But you never know what the “Shadowy old grey men in Seattle” have up their sleeves!
I see that the 717 is now being built without the characteristic DC9 “eyebrow” windows on the flightdeck-apparantly it saves money according to Boeing.
Nice pics-Always liked Iraqis colours.
RE: Would Qantas Consider Leaving OneWorld?
I think you make a compelling case for Qantas staying put, and you will most likely be correct. Alliances are a fact of modern airline life and look set to stay that way. (Like LoCo carriers-but lets not go there!) The alliance topic will be an interesting one over the coming year or so.

RE: Would Qantas Consider Leaving OneWorld?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-02-03 AT 11:11 PM (GMT)]Its not so long ago that British Airways was bordering on being an economic basket case, however as we know all know Mr Eddington has turned the situation around, and all credit to him for that, although that is still work in progress, it proves what can be done and this applies just as well to the situation at one or two of the Star Alliance members. I stand by my previous observation. In in this fickle industry, you cannot write off a major change of direction on the part of Qantas should the long term view of the “bean counters” within the carrier deem it the best way foreward.
Alliances are not set in stone!

RE: security step up
Personally I am against the war, and my reasons are my own, but I dont think that this is the right forum to get into the politics of this situation.

RE: Would Qantas Consider Leaving OneWorld?
Whatever the outcome I think that like most other things in modern aviation it will be decided by the “bean counters” I very much doubt that cultural ties will have a lot to do with it. I personally would like to see Qantas in Star Alliance, I would’t be too surprised in the future that unless One World progresses towards expansion that it too might seek inclusion within Star-stranger things have happened!

RE: more plane questions
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-02-03 AT 08:30 PM (GMT)]MiG21MF,MiG25,Su27-Can we mention these on here? Oh what the hell, I also like the bombers TU16,TU160 and TU95, purely from a design point of view you understand! as opposed to what they do.

Although they’ve been around a while I still think that the Iberia colours look good.

RE: Announcing the arrival of flight JS001 from “The Axis of Evil”
Alastair, at present Air Koryo operates 2 TU134-A3 Regns P813/P814. When I visited the country in 1986 all of the aircraft in the fleet that we saw looked very well cared for, however I don’t think that they have a hard life. The TU134 that we flew on only had seats from the overwing exits foreward, the aft cabin was just curtained off. The IL62 was conventional inside. In 86 it was forbidden to photograph at the airport and I was politely-no really!-discouraged from using my camera in the cabin, though I understand that things are a little easier now. There is an IL62M that operates exclusively
for the leadership of the country and this is easy to spot as it has no titles on the aircraft and I think that it still sports the national flag on the fin as did the the Air Koryo aircraft when they were painted up as CAAK (Civil Aviation Administration of Korea) The inflight service was good and the cabin crew very well “groomed”
Hope this info is helpful.
