Absolutely!
The EDI Airport Watch scheme has been running for a couple of years.
Many regulars locals wear their ID cards with pride.
Others are more discrete. Some spotters will just sit in their cars, others
will venture along the perimeter for photographs.
It’s no secret that the security/police take a note of our car registrations
when we park nearby. They know who we are.
Rest easy. It’s a two way process.
Our police officers are absolutely sound.
Nuff said,
Gerry
Hello NJayM
Yes, it was known soon after that there was a VIP around EDI at the time of the
alert. We are drawing our own conclusions as to why the airport was
closed down for a period of time. ….
As you can see by the response, the Police were ‘reactive’ to an Airport
Security response.
Also, Ingliston Car park is not public ground, it is owned by RHS.
Prevously owned by Spooks of the flea market.
Of course, they cannot prevent anyone traversing by foot unless
there is a cause or justification to prevent access, by statute.
(Scots Law on access to land, as you know)
The car park has had many obstacles and gates added in the last few years
to prevent ‘travellers’ from setting up ‘home’ there too. And vandalism.
The police have turned photographers away from Ingliston (‘B” link) in the
past when it suits them. Whenever the Terrorist Level hits a high point,
security checks are pretty common down there.
I know what it’s like.
And yet, in the last week, there hasn’t been a glance.
I think the situation was blown out of all proportion by the press
and a jumpy Airport Security.
It’s the passengers that got the raw deal on this case, not the
lame photographer.
Case closed I reckon.

Liason response to the Local Watch Group
“Firstly can I apologise for the reporting of the hole in the fence. At no time have the Police thought or indicated that this incident was attributed to our group, and in fact we very quickly established that this hole was in no way suspicious. The Airport itself was a little less forthcoming.
The hole was too low and in the wrong place to be of any benefit for a photographer and it seems that the spurious reporting was nothing more than that.
Hope this helps and eases your thoughts somewhat”.
🙂
And, just as a side note, whenever the fence has previously been subjected to ‘damage’ it usually
happens when there is an ‘event’
That is, ingress of non-local spotters or photographers whenever
there is special transiting ‘traffic’ of one kind or another.
You know, the guys who only goes to the airport twice a year. etc etc
Well, the Red Arrows and the BBMF were in at the weekend.
It was a bit busier that usual I believe. And it was the RHS weekend.
We’ve always seen something ‘done’ to the fence once the hoards have left.
So, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was damage somewhere.
There was reported damage on the Boathouse side a few months ago
which the EDIWatch group were alerted about. Don’t know what happened
or if the miscreant was caught or not.
It’s the ‘reaction’ taken by the authorities this time that has stunned me.
As I say, await more information.
Gerry
Scotty
I’ve been down to Ingliston a few times now (and another local photog
who goes down to Ingliston after work) to take a few shots since the incident.
We see no new damage or repairs to the fence (it already has dozens of repairs over the years) and no extra patrols/police either.
We haven’t been approached once. I was hoping to flag someone
down to get a update on what really happened, but haven’t.
I have seen the perimeter rovers dwelling on the north side only.
Maybe there’s more to this story than just the press news reports
so far.
Cheers
Gerry Hill
Nice stuff Martin, you must have been close by me when you were taking the runway shots.
Get a dog. Take him plane-spotting.
Everybody gets to knows the dog.
Unfortunately, spotters/photograhers all look the same!
🙂

It took me +30 years to enjoy a Haggis.
It was the knowing of what the real stuff was made from, put me off.
Now I’m too old to care.
Worst ‘pet’ food I’ve eat is roasted ‘Guinea Pig’ in Tenerife.
I think it is a South American import.
It was lovely actually. :p

Hello..
Very familiar shots! 🙂
I stopped by at about 13:30 in my car for a lunch break but there was
nothing worth shooting that passed my eyes, so I didn’t get out my wagon.
I missed that A6 lear… nice.
Right enough, you don’t really need ladders for that spot. >>>

Gerry
Verrrrry nice… 🙂
Where did you get that snow from?
🙂
Gerry

Our hero.

haven’t been out for the last few days so don’t know if the Fir Trees on the North side are getting chopped down yet, hope so
White Eagle isn’t a twitcher, but I think I’m right in saying that nesting birds
don’t inhabit fir trees. Deciduous is their preference.
Thanks DJ!
White Eagle is very happy… 😀
I might come through west to the visit the old drome more often now!
Nice shots btw.
