You were lucky to get such a nice day climbing out of Newark, both times when we took off for LAS and BHX it was overcast and u were in the clouds within 8 seconds, oh well saw New York anyway.
I must say i loved everything about CO, there food 😀 i had a very similer meal on the EWR-LAS and LAS-EWR routes which were very nice i thought, the cabin with pleatiful room i thought, friendly cabin crew and pilots.
I would definenatly reccomend CO……anyway Sandy, that is a great report and love the pics, especially that one climbing out of EWR and the cabin shot, reminds me of my four great flights with them 😀

I guess the same is partly true of the MAN and BHX services to some extent though. The fact that the MAN service went from a 757 initially to an assortment of larger widebodied types (DC10, 777, 764) hasn’t impeded growth at BHX. I don’t think it’s uncommon for passengers from the Midlands and even the South West to travel up to MAN to take an intercontinental flight.
Many Midlanders aren’t even aware of the number of services available at BHX. Recently, I overheard some Brummies discussing flying to Australia – one said to the other “You’d have to travel to London or Manchester to get a flight to somewhere like Australia.” Obviously, Emirates should be doing a bit more advertising in that region :p

I agree on the point that growth at MAN hasnt affected operations at BHX, isnt it essentially the same……? CO obviously thought 777s would be good for the MAN route and a twice daily 757 service is good for BHX……
Isnt a twice daily service really more convienent……the normal holiday maker in most cases isnt going to care about the type of aircraft being used…just the more choice in departure times?

And on the EK point, i dont think alot of Midland passangers realise what these flights from BHX to Newark and Dubai can give? a large choice of connection flights to most populer holiday destinations?

Maybe, i only found two pics of CO DC-10s at BHX on http://www.airliners.net, maybe it was only a trial time, there are only two pictures or so of CO B767s, maybe these were trial periods?

Well i wasnt aware they operated the DC-10 anymore???
Even so if it was a downgrade it has been upgraded again obviously now with the twice daily B752s at BHX 🙂

I think what Sandy means is that Continental’s wide-bodies are already fully-committed to existing routes, so there’s no room for upgrading anywhere.

Thinking about it, he’s probably right.

I’m not sure they’ve got any on order at the moment and in the current climate within the US airline industry there’s not much chance of a new order for a while, either.

Yeah i suppose, well as i said before i havnt got a problem with the twice daily service either…… 🙂 😀

Wasnt aware CO had a lack of widebodies?

I just wonder whether it wouldn’t make more sense to combine both flights onto a larger aircraft – B767-400 or even a B777.

That would free up 2 B757s for new routes, like Bristol.

You would off thought that would of been a smarter idea.
Being a reguler BHX spotter i would have no objection to the introduction of a larger aircraft on the BHX-EWR route, although i know CO probably have thier reasons for keeping the two B752s. 🙂

Why are the two BHX flights so close together, Future Pilot?

Thats a very good question?
I really havn’t got any idea, i suppose there could be a number of possible reasons………..? Maybe they want to get the passangers there during the afternoon? for when there is the largest amount of CO connecting flights?
I’m not sure? anyone else have any idea’s?

These are the departure times of the BHX – EWR flights……

    CO27 – 10:15am

    CO33 – 12:05pm

I agree Grey Area, its also good to hear about the good loads on the BHX-EWR service, well figuring it must be with the seond daily flight……just trying to think whether the good loads represent the first flight or both?
