    Bomb release, safe or live.

    HI.
The spools mentioned are normally locked and the pins are pulled out when the bomb is dropped. To jettison bombs safe, the bomb aimer puts the fusing switch from ‘live’ to ‘safe’. the spools are free to revolve allowing the bombs to fall with the pins in situ.

    Hi.
The third item at the top looks like aflexible pipe for either oil air or fuel. The third at top is definately a cooling fan from pump, cooling moor or generator.

Hi Paul. I would have know your father, I was at 617 dispersal 1950 to 1955. 617 squadron disbanded in 1954 and I ended up in the electrical section until demob.

    Hi.
Regarding the wind in aerial on the Anson. When I was doing my square bashing at Bridge North, one day we senior men were told to report to the Guard Room for a dirty job at Cosford. At the Guard room we boarded an Anson
On the pan was an Avro Anson ticking over and we were duly put on board. I ended up next to the pilot amid jeers from the lads! The pilot said, “You’r not going to sit there doing nothing, you can wind then undercarriage up. There was a huge wheel at the side of my seat, it took thirty turns down and thirty turns up!

The ground power supply for the Lincoln was in one of the inboard undercarriage bays. It may be the same for the Lanc. I worked on the Lincoln at RAF Binbrook on 617 squadron in the fifties.

    Isle of Wight RailwayI

I have built part of the Isle of Wight railway in “OO” Three sides of a bedroom,
4x4x4M. All the points are operated from a central board. All the buildings are Metcalfe. I’ll try and rustle up some photo’s.

    The book I am reading.

I have just finished Legion of The Damned, by Sven Hassel. (George Allen and Unwin) A story of the sheer waste of German youth and man power towards the end of the war. Frightening!

    Air museums in England

    Hi.
If you’r in Dumfries and Galloway, call in at the Dumfries Aviation Museum. There are quite a number of aircraft, they are not roped off and you can sit in some of them. There is also a three story control tower packed full of aviation history, Many jet engines and again nothing is roped off. This time of the year it is open on Saturdays and Sunday. May to September, open Wednesday to Sunday.

    Special Constables

    Hi.
I was Special with the Grimsby Contabulary for eight years in the sixties and enjoyed every minute of it. Felt a few collars in my time and didn’t get bruised once!
