Lincoln engines
…and what engines did the Lincoln have Ben?
I worked on the Lincoln with 617 Squadron at RAF Binbrook, I was electrician but I think the engines were Rolls Royce 60 series, probably 66.

Canberra as ever.
Nostalgia, everlasting nostalgia.
Just seen two old friends, WD954 and WD955. Both friend of mine with 617 Squadron in the early fifties. If the F700’s were around, my signature would be up quite few times. They were B2’s when we had them.

Canberra Camo.
Re Canberra Camo. In the early fifties we had a Canberra that stood out among the grey/black ones. It was WD 986 and she was grey/green camo ontop and sky blue underneath. I had quite few trips in her, I often wonder where she went when we received the B6.

I particularly like the Lincolnshire Fens in the background, so characteristic of WW2 bomber ops from the East of England.
Moggy
Hi Moggy.
That would’nt be the fens, the fens are absolutely flat. It would look more like the Lincolnshire Wolds, my old stampiong ground.

Westland Wessex HU5.
Hi David.
I was wondering how much it would cost if the various panels were available. With so many Wessexes in various museums being lovingly rebuilt, I would think the panels required would be priced out of our reach,
so it would be self manufactured, but the photo’s I have are not very clear. It would be a case of making them. I rebuilt a Jetstream cockpit from scratch, thats the one in my avatar. I have priced it at just over £200. Getting good photo’s are the problem.

Worst British aircraft?
I worked with a chap who flew Barra’s off aircraft carriers in the Pacific. By this time they had cured the habit of dropping a wing when carrying a torpedo. He said they were reliable and could take a lot of punishment and still get them home. It was a case of drop the torpedo and throttle to the fire wall!

Jet Provost T4
Hi.
We have a Jet Provost T4 at the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum. I have just finished rebuilding the cockpit, there’s the seats to go in now. I think it originally came from Cranwell.
What happened to the middle one?
Re Binbrook photo’s. Did you try to miss the middle hangar of the five? You only got it once. That was mine! Shared by 617 and 101 squadrons. Spent many happy hours working on Lincoln’s and Canberra’s.

[QUOTE=bobert;1296731]I was at at RAF Binbrook January/September 1947 with 617 Squadron Goodwill Tour to the USA/Canada 16 Lincolns. The Lincoln was a great aircraft and good to work on. I was Instruments with Fl/Sgt Thorpe.
Throughout the whole tour of the USA/Canada the Lincolns gave little or no trouble, and all 16 aircraft landed at Gander Newfoundland just 4 minutes beyond the scheduled ETA.
From an Instrument point of view the Lincoln very much resembled the Lancaster, and we had fond memories of the whole tour.
How long were you at Binbrook.?
I went back to Scampton after the Goodwill Tour.
Hi
I was at Binbrook from 1951 to 1956. I was at the dispersal. A few of the names I remember was F/Sgt Bass Chiefy Pye, Sgt Dobson. I think the CO was Sqdn Leader Thain, nicknamed Paddy.

here’s a response from the seller:
“Hi, This piece is 100% from this Hurricane and I have also been on a Hurri site myself and seen pieces of this material come up. The external skin is what I presumed it would be as I can’t think of another use for this material on the aircraft – it has the remains of steel fasteners of some type still visible. Would you have an idea of what this piece is, if not the external covering? Any input would be appreciated.
Regards
Mike”
They look like snap fasteners, it could be the remains of the parachute pack?

SE 5 Roundel
The roundels were ringed in yellow in the last war. From 1917 onwards they were ringed in white.
