    Wet starts.

If we had a wet start at Binbrook on a Canberra and the engine had’nt caught but we still had a fire in the tail pipe we would quickly put a new cartridge in and start the engine again with no fuel pumps running and ignition off. It usually worked and by that time the heavy gang were there with the big extinguishers.

    Jetstream Cockpit

    Hi.
Heres the Jetstream cockpit I refurbished at Dumfries Aviation Museum. It was an empty shell, I reskinned the inside, the seats are original. Every thing else, including the instruments is home made.

    Pleasure flights from Cleethorpes beach.

I remember them, in fact my brother in law and I had a trip in 1956. I had just been demobbed from the RAF and had started work at British Titan Products on the Humber Bank and asked the pilot to fly over the factory.

Is there actually a Red Baron FS on the market that works on Windows XP. I was dissapointed when found it did’nt work. I can’t spend a lot either, at 76 and on basic pension, money does’nt go far.

    Panel. Source unknown.

An instrument panel has come into the museum. I did’nt have my camera and will not be there again for three weeks (puppies) If I describe it, someone may recognise it. First it is twin engined. The panel is 41″ (104cm) wide and 15″ (33cm) deep From the left is the flight instruments which arent in the usual square six. First bottom left, altimeter. Above and slightly right is Turn and slip. Alongside the Altimeter is the ASI. Above the ASI is the turn and slip. Above and to the right of theT& S is the Artificial Horizon. Below this is ADF 1. To the right of the A.H is the ILS. in a line below the ILS is the Altimeter and the Climb and Descent. To the right of these are four small engine monitors going downwards. To the right of the top two are the outer middle and airways markers then a blank 3″ dia hole. to the right of the hole are the st bd engine monitors. In between the bottom engine monitors are Comms 1 and Comms 2. Above this group of instruments the panel bulges upwards slightly about 13″ (33 cm) and this holds the port and stboard combined oil pressure and temp gauges. To the right of the stboard engine monitors are three blanking plates 3″ sq and one top right. Below this one is RDF2, the panel is then joggled 2″ rearwards.

    Aircraft codes.

My brother in law has a photograph of a Spitfire with the letters RA in front of the roundel and GJ after it. I told him it was evidently a senior officer as they were allowed to use their initials as codes. Has anyone any idea how I can trace who it was?

    Spitfire Squadron code.

    Hi.
My brother in law showed me a photo of a spitfire with a four letter code. I knew that senior officers could use their initials as a code. It is particularly relevant because they are my brother in law’s own initials RAGJ. Is there any way of tracing its originality?

    HMS Belfast?

Has HMS Belfast been altered since I saw it last. It was a WWII Cruiser with eight six inch guns, not was one of those modern “Sink at a touch” types?

    Jetstream Cockpit

    Hi,
This is the Jet Stream cockpit I have been working on at Dumfries Museum. There were not walls, floors, instument panels non existent, all the instruments shown have been home made out of plastic. Rudder pedals and control wheels same. The only originals are the seats.
