    You are incorrect

When people get scared they always, always move their money to the safest place that exists and that is the United States and federal treasury bonds. Even in the present crisis, when people get scared they come to the US. This is why the pound and euro are currently sinking. The United States offers the safest place to put your cash. FACT! It does not matter if you believe this or not, this is a fact. If the United States goes away, so does the current economic world as we know it today. The US will certainly recover from the excesses of the last few years and thrive. Doubt this, get back to me in three or four years.

They may be able to pull it off

    Howdy,

I can see them doing well in cities like Providence, RI, Hartford, CT, Baltimore, and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Certainly they will not fly to Boston, New York, or Washington, DC. In the West Coast I could see them doing Oakland, CA and that may work well too. In the Midwest Milwaukee and St. Louis could be targets. There are lots of smaller cities that are not served. There are also some large markets like St. Louis without service at all to Europe.

Providence would be a good city for them because they have the huge Boston market nearby including the southern and south western suburbs. and about two million people living on Cape Cod, south eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island and parts of Connecticut. Right now the only option they have is Boston or driving 200 miles down to New York.

Hartford lost its Northwest service to Amsterdam. So Hartford would be a real option for them.

Milwaukee and St. Louis want service to Europe badly. I could see them getting some money from both cities or states. If they move into St. Louis this may force American Airlines to consider restarting their old TWA routes to Gatwick.

It will be interesting to see how they deal with charging for luggage and food. Now that most American and Canadian carriers are charging for bags, the public is now for the most part use to it. I hope it happens. We need more low fare carriers in the US and Canada; Canada particularly. Although the problem with Canada is where would they fly too as Ryan does not like to fly to major cities. So Toronto certainly would be tough for them. Buffalo, New York might be an option (not sure about US Customs). I can now see them advertising their Toronto flights to Buffallo, Ontario ? Even for them that would be a tough one.

But this is just America. I am not certain about rights to Hong Kong, but with the loss of that low frills carrier (forgot their name), that may be a market for them too.

What LH wants out of SN

Brussels is a nice little treat for LH. Capital of the EU with lots of business people flying in and out during the week, they will make a nice piece of change. A respectable airline like LH controlling Brussels works perfectly for the carrier. There is no reason to create a hub there. They rely solely on EU traffic to the capital and rake in the eruos. Good stretigic decion on LH’s part.

LH may add transatlantic service. For example it is possible to see them do a Munich-Brussels-Boston flight (possible wishful thinking on my part-I live in Boston). They might also do well in a Berlin-Brussels-New York flight.

Brussels, managed by a well run airline has real possibilities. This is good news for SN.

I know it is mean too and she did not know, but…

It is still funny! Can you imagine being the baggage handlers seeing a woman coming down the baggage shute? Probably shook his head a couple of times and rubbed his eyes only to realize, THIS IS THE REAL THING!

What is pathetic is I can think of some people who just might do this too!

Still cannot stop laughing when I see this post!

I don’t think in all my years of flying i’ve ever come across any overweight cabin crew

    Steve,

I don’t think you have flown in the US lately. It is definately not the 60’s any more!

    Now things become interesting

If Lufthansa infact buys BD, then things become interesting in the EU. LH will be changing its thinking as what its role is. Currently it is a German airline with a small Swiss fling. If they buy BD then they become a true EU airline. As an American I think this is good for LH and certainly BD. It is an evolution in European thinking, that is out of the box (the German box). I know this is going to **** off UK members, but this is just a further evolution of Europe as a unified state.

BA will now have to make the next move and I assume that would be IB.

I would like to add that the empoyees of AZ did AF/KL a big favor. What was AF/KL thinking anyway? An ego in Paris brought down to earth I suppose? AF has become a great airline. AZ would likely have destroyed it.

    EU would not allow it

The EU would never allow a merger of BA and British Midland Airways. This would be a disaster for British and European travelers. While a merger between BA and AA would be remarkable, the US government will never allow it. Even if it passed the US authorities, the EU would force the two to give up LHR slots. They will never agree to this.

I do want to add that the trip to Senegal was GREAT! I got more done than I could have expected (unless I do not get my luggage back). What a nice place!

US Airways just wanted us to go away

    Hi Bill,

Sounds like you have had a rotten trip…I would of expected US Airways to handle cancellations much better than that.

Suggest you have a look at the following link…it is US Airway’s so called ‘Customer’s First Plan’:

    http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/aboutus/customersfirst/customerserviceplan.aspx

Did they give you any info regarding the cancellation at all; what was the reason for the cancellation?

    From US Airways website:

    Howdy,

It was as if US Airways wanted us and the passengers on the other EU flights to go away. Jet Blue had a melt down last February and handled it correctly (a refund and a free flight). USless offered me $ 350.00. That does not even cover the hotel cost loss in PHL and BRU! They stink. Next time I will fly (first choice) Air France, SN Brussels, or Delta.

    I really enjoyed your post

    Hi,

I am from the neurotic United States of America, you know, the country where everyone fears everything! I wonder if the FBI would want to talk to you if you tried to book something similar in this country?

I have always wanted to do what you did. Maybe I will on my upcoming vacation. I think it is very cool that you flew all these flights to just sample an airline!

On my BEA 1964-65 winter timetable, BEA had eleven flights mostly with the Vanguard.

    Howdy,

It is more than a rumor about BOS. They note on their web page that BOS is a likely route to London.
