We had a busy weekend as there was a military show at Barleylands near Billericay an several of our aircraft displayed there.
The Gnat three-ship was out a couple of times on Saturday for a practice, then the display

The Huey did a display practice before going off to do the real thing!

The South Arabian Federation JP went out several times including two solo sorties

The Hurricane and Spitfire wet both displaying too, but on Saturday I was working in the Tower when the PRXI was out

On Monday the Staggerwing departed

Giving us a pas on the way back east

Air Britain Fly-in Sunday visitors
A selection of the Sunday action at the Air Britain Fly-in.
The lovely de Havilland Dragon departed

We had a visit from another Miles Messenger

This Percival Vega Gull is a frequent attendee as well

There was a Rearwin Sporster too

A Wasp was in for maintenance

The Spitfire also did a display at the Boys Toys Show at Chelmsford

The Hurricane was out displaying at Northolt, and landed back on the grass

American types were well represented too.
The Stearman was back in again from Napps Field

A lovely Staggerwing in Fleet Air Arm colours

A Super Cub in military markings

A Fairchild Argus

A Hiller helicopter was an unusual visitor

A Navion flew in too

The Mustang was displaying at Biggin Hill and returned latte afternoon

Air Britain Fly-in Saturday
Just a selection from the first day of the Air Britain Fly-in. We start off with some classic British types…
Derek Sharp’s immaculately restored Bulldog

Miles and Auster amalgamated to form Beagle, which designed the Bulldog, so next is Peter Holloway’s Miles Falcon

And a visiting Messenger

One of the featured types were de Havilland cabin aircraft, and two Hornet Moths were in attendance

Also Dragon Rapides. The Duxford example turned up along with the Aer Lingus Dragon ‘Iolar’

There was also a Nord 1002 in Luftwaffe colours

On Friday the Airfield was preparing for the Air Britain Fly-in over the weekend and a Hangar Dance at Hangar 6. The C54 has been moved to provide a backdrop.

The Bremont Broussard was outside in the sun as well.

One of the arrivals for the Fly-in was an Aeronca L-3 Grasshopper.

The Mustang was also out on a short air test. It will be displaying at Biggin Hill today (Saturday). It used the grass runway, which has dried out nicely after the recent rain.

On Wednesday we had a couple of regular visitors. First in was the Boeing Stearman from Napps Field. It returned again later.

Then a T-6 Harvard arrived from Biggin Hill for some circuits,

The Hunter T7, Fox 1, was also outside in the sun having a bit of routine maintenance.

The Hurricane was out again on Sunday, displaying at Folkestone before landing away at Headcorn. The main runway was closed for most of the day for a drag racing event. The short runway, 12, was in use. When the Hurricane returned we had created a displaced threshold on the main runway, 20, with Ops vehicles so had a landing over the top of us. The Herts Air Ambulance was close behind…

At the end of the day we also had a flypast by the RAF Memorial Flight Dakota.

Normal service is resumed!
A thundery and showery morning put a lot of people off, but it gradually cleared and the Hurricane departed for a display at Folkestone.

Some interesting prop vortices on take off…

A nice curved approach on its return…

Back at Hangar 11, the Spitfire was being readied for a flight too…

It went off to Hucknall, landing away later at RAF Cosford. It will be returning on Sunday.

The Blades gave us a nice smoke-on pass while transiting back to Sywell…

Remembering D-Day
Last Saturday we were also able to carry out a photo shoot of US Airborne re-enactors using the recently arrived Dakota from Shawbury and the C-54 as backdrops. The Band of Brothers was filmed at North Weald, so with the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings and the paratroopers’ involvement in that historic battle being celebrated this week, it is nice to be able to recognise this.

Some shots were also taken in the nearby sandbagged area (used for barbecues), converted to black and white and made grainy. A German views of a 101st Airborne paratrooper’s rifle!

The new structure is a logistics warehouse extension for Kings Transport, which is based at Hangar 5. This hangar was relocated from the Gloster factory at Brockworth.
Some action from last Saturday (31 May). The Jet Provost Mark 4, XR673, returned to Linton on Ouse

One of our home based Jet Provost Mark 5s, G-BWOF, was out on a local flight, returning to take part in the spot landing competition. It came second, which was a great achievement!

The Spitfire PRXI went out to display near Gloucester..

On Whit Sunday it was jet action all day. The Jet Provost Mark 3, G-BKOU, went to Bruntingthrope, returning in the afternoon.

The Jet Provost Mark 52, G-PROV went out on a couple of local sorties.

The Vampire also went out again on a local sortie.

Some jet action as well. The Vampire was outside yesterday (Friday) for a photo shoot.

It went to Sleap today, returning late afternoon.

Another classic silver jet outside was a Jet Provost Mark 4, which is at North Weald for maintenance.

The Mustang went out later on an air-to-air photo shoot.
