What names can you make out? I can read Joe Bailey (who seems to have signed twice, running off the edge the first time), Sam Hazleton, erm…

Good luck Old Warden

Cool, so there was Enough in the set and some assorted washers spare for future use. At least you can tell people it has been done to Aviation Spec and you have the paperwork to prove you can trace them back to manufacture if they ever recall them lol.
🙂
In fact there wasn’t. The set contains a lot of washers of many types – mostly plain or spring, but only three that I could use. So I ordered some more the right size
Paperwork just doesn’t cut it in the canal world, a handshake is far more valuable. But then, canal boats don’t fall out of the sky, do they
Richard
Just to let you know, tab washers arrived today and are installed:

I now have a canal boat gearbox with a certificate of conformity
Thank you everyone,
Richard
Whoa! Stop
Thank you Tony and Dave. I’ve ordered a mixed pack from LAS now. I need some 5/16″ for the clutch end in the picture above and some 1/4″ for the input bevel end of the bevel cluster. in the image below:

The mixed pack should do what I need, straight, ninety degree or whatever. It’s only a boat gearbox after all, and currently it has spring washers. I’d rather return it to the designed state, hence the tab washers.
Once again, thanks guys, you’ve been brilliant
Richard
Though this is not expensive
Thanks Tony. I did find your second two links, this one looks the best bet
Richard
MORE: Order placed. Thank you chaps, I knew this was the place to ask
Like this?
Exactly like that! Thank you, I wonder why I couldn’t find those
Richard
Blast! He only has the 5/16″ ones
That’s useful. I wonder if there is one local, I’ve never had a reason to look for a Rolls-Royce dealer before
For curious minds, some of the gearbox components:

I always thought an IL.76 looked something like this:confused:
I say, damned fine play that man
Richard
I see that the Russians changed their markings:

makes me laugh coz the Lancaster didnt enter service until 1942
Then it’s from the prototype and worth twice as much! :p
Richard
In general, don’t you think it would be good to give a brief title to indicate what, where, when etc? And maybe acknowledge the source!
Who is the ‘you’ you have in mind?
Richard
Awww, I’ve gone all warm and fuzzy now…
Wildfire, I can’t help celebrating the difference between when you were thinking of selling your engine to now when you are marching forwards, and sharing your skills too
Thank you, that’s a great result
Richard

go and find a nice pub and try to forget about it for a while.
I think this is a great idea

I’ve changed my mind…:(

TVOC WILL be forthcoming with the answers, but to the relevant authorities who actually need to know.
I’d hazard that Key forums and the myriad of other aviation websites probably aren’t in that list.{snip}
Actually, I would say that they have been very good at managing this story to avoid speculation, there have been at lest two news releases so far. Well done TVOC
Richard
They could, if they could fit ex Concorde afterburning olympus 593 engines. Must be a few of those about 🙂
In theory I suppose they could – a Vulcan was used as a test bed for the Concorde engines IIRC. Who would own the design responsibility for that though? And could they afford the paperwork for the changes to the aeroplane – if only to fit a switch to engage the afterburners?
