Aha, all becomes clear. That will teach me to not look closer (both at your post name and the serial on that T.22!) That must have been fun supervising the T.22 paint – got any pics perchance of the final thing, or did it only appear in magazines as you hinted might be the case.
Cheers for that, PageN01, I love the Sea Hawk as well, a real beauty of an aircraft, right down to its graceful curved wing and tailfin joins. Looks so good in her colour schemes too. FS definitely deserved the Sea Hawk and we hadn’t had a new model since one back for FS2002, so definitely a worthwhile project.
I know the Gannet COD.4 you are talking about; I actually painted up a FOAC barge last year in those colours and we spent a few weeks debating the exact shade of blue/grey over at CBFSIM.org!
Will look for the DH Heron barge that you mentioned. In the meantime I looked up XA160 (T.22 Sea Vampire) and found these ‘barge’ decals on Hannants, yet they show her in EDSG not, green…

This is itself is interesting, as various other threads, and indeed model kits I found show a green:

Cheers to Pagen01 and Lee Howard for the gloss and Flag Officers Green info, very useful indeed. Anyone have links or pics of the other ‘barge’ a/c somewhere, preferably in colour? I’d love to see how the other types looked.
Oh, I’ll see what I can do about WV838!!!
Cracking site there by the way, I was on it the other day looking at the restoration diary, what superb work and I dearly wish I could have been involved in some way. I’ve kind of fallen in love with the Sea Hawk now after spending 9 months building her for FS.
Will shout if there’s something I need – thanks for the offer. Watch this space for some pics soon.
OK, just to get you even more annoyed, here is WV908. I need some good pics of 838 if you more than the nose section…

Steve
Cracking thread here, I’ve just come in late, but some great discussion here and very useful too, as I’m building the Sea Hawk for FS2004 at the mo and am about to do WV908 as she stands today.
One thing I’d like to get opinions on is the level of gloss finish FAA Sea Hawks were maintained with. I’ve set mine to something just over semi-gloss, but some folks have commented this is too shiny. Would this have been a case of they started off glossy but gradually wore down to a low-semi gloss/borderline matt over the years? I have some Dutch FGA.50s and Mk.101s that looked more matt, given that they were handed over in the latter years of the type’s life.
For the record, I am definitely a EDSG/Sky fan as well. One final question: I have painted one FGA.6 up in the green/white ‘Admiral’s barge’ scheme but does anyone know the significance of the green? I have seen it referred to as ‘Flag Officer Green’ but wondered about this. Does anyone have an accurate swatch for it as I guessed mine off colour photos.
You can see my work in progress here:

Cheers all,
Steve
p.s. if you blokes are after a nice-looking Suez scheme, pay a visit to the Midland Air Museum at Baginton – they have a lovely FGA.6 in said scheme that you can sit in (WV797).
Thanks for that, Frank. Latest update is I just finished watching an old colour Farnborough DVD from Canada which showed a nice little sequence of her and so I have answered my own question.
That said, if anyone has any more info on it, such as specs, they would be much appreciated as I wouldn’t mind building a dedicated FS model of her one day.
Steve
The Black/Grey one flew over the Co-Op in St Ives, Cambs about 1030ish on Saturday
You lucky devil Pen Pusher, I’m an ex – St. Ivian myself, and would dearly love to have seen it fly over the co-op. I remember the good old days of watching them up Old Ramsey Road, and now rely on my parents for any odd sighting these days.

Hello Oxford,
Can’t really help you with the 1/48 scale kit of the Mark 8, but I am planning to build a few 1/72 kits for sale over the coming months. I am not the world’s best modeller, but if you are interested, they will have custom paint jobs and decals to make them a little more than out of the box Frog kits. I’ve done one recently (88 Sqn) to give you an idea. VX185 is next. You can see the 88 sqn bird here:

LATEST UPDATE: I have now have the Mark 8 prototype VX185 for sale here:
Best regards,
Steve
Cheers Les, and thanks also to everyone else that responded. I’ll get back to everyone properly tonight, but it looks like I have some good material here.
Best,
Steve
She looks great indeed. Rlangham, if you or anyone else gets down there anytime soon with a camera, would you mind shooting some more close ups of her for me? I’m doing a Sea Hawk repaints next for FS and would love some good reference pics showing panel lines and stencil markings etc.
Just a favour if you can, if not I will zoom in close on some pics from Airliners.net. Cheers,
Steve
Hmm, well Les, I see you have been promoted to pilot! Congrats sir! :p
You’re not being pedantic, but I don’t think I can help you on that, unless I am misinterpretting your comment. I’m not sure what you mean by the cord, but if it’s built into the model then it’s a no go or an email to Bill Holker, who originally built it. I just handle the textures 🙂
Steve, I see you do a 32SQN B6 circa 1966 any chance of a all silver 32Sqn cyprus 1959 or a bassingborne 35Sqn… only ask coz my father flew B2 with 32 and 35 sqn in the 1950’s
regards
Cliff
Here you go, Cliff – a 32 Sqn bird that was outfitted at Weston Zoyland before heading out to Akrotiri in 1957…should be available for download sometime this week.

Steve
Well, we may well have different panels then, as the one I’m using has the DV panel, plenty of piping and a pretty authentic B.2 look based off the odd photo Les B. has thrown my way. I’m sure it could be improved, but it is definitely not the PR.9 type panel that came with Kazunori Ito’s B.2 release a few years back. If you download the model off my site, you should get the full cockpit I’m using right now. Check out Bill Holker’s virtual cockpit too and see if you like that… all we need is a nice VC to go with Paul Foster’s recent B(I).8 model.
Cliffair, I’d be happy to do both requests if you can give me some reference photos to work off. Cheers all,
Steve
nazca_steve….can you recommend any good fs2004 canberra cockpits?
I’m after B2 mainly…..and the ones i’ve tried before are a bit naff.cheers
Well I can try, although it depends on what you’ve tried before. The only one I know about is the B.2 cockpit that came with the Bill Holker B.2 model. This one has a virtual cockpit too, but I think uses the Alphasim one for the static version (which I thought was alright, but maybe you know better).
if anyone else knows of cockpit alternatives, please join in. Cheers,
Steve
