Agree, very much. It might not carry as much external/conformal fuel when compared to other aircraft

Yes , we all agree on this .
There is also the way the aircraft is flying belly on the ground (aerodynamics , autopilot) and how much fuel the engines need to fly this way . They are not made for .
On a high-low-high mission (after refueling), the Eurofighter is short ranged compare to SH and Rafale and for a low-low-high mission , it is short legged .
The F-35 (if it ever flies) will not do better in this kind of Ops .

When you ‘ re over enemy territory , fuel equals life .

    Cheers.

No idea honestly. I know a lot of guys that have gone the airline route, though I’m not sure that I’d be terribly interested in that kind of flying 🙂

How much do you make in the Airforce ?
How much would you make flying for (name the company) ?

    Cheers .

    I think this ones better:

    😀

Yes it does look better (thanks CGI) but wrt range , the Typhoon comes short compare to the picture I posted with 3 big tanks instead of one small ventral .
It proves again the AtoA driven design of the Eurofighter …
(edit : and you can ‘t do **** about it and India knows it , like everybody)

    Cheers .

With a pilot selectable bingo setting like we have, it’s just speaking to the way in which folks manage those settings throughout the flight. You don’t want the thing going off all the time, or you start to get desensitized to it, and one day you will fight right through it without realizing what you are doing. Basically, from a professional aviator’s standpoint, it is simply a backup and you should be aware enough of your fuel state to keep it from going off. It is there to save you on those days where you are a little behind the jet, or a little task saturated, and momentarily lose SA to what your fuel state is (happens to the best of us on occasion). It should never be a crutch.

That does make sense and I was thinking right , it ‘s up to the driver even if the aircraft has its own safety and is reminding you , just in case …

It would be completely mission dependant, both in terms of when we hit the tanker, as well as how much we take.

    Ok .

We use lbs, not tons, so I guess I’m used to that convention, but it doesn’t take too long to take on a couple thousand pounds….maybe a couple minutes or so. There are lights on the basket as well as the tanker that help us hook up.

    Ok .
Thank you again for your priceless input 🙂
Another question , more personal . What do you intend to do after leaving the Airforce ? Flying Airliners or … something completly different ?

    Cheers .

Ugly. Typhoon with CFTs looks much better.

    ?

You mean THIS ugly thing (?) :

Our Bingo warning goes off when internal fuel reaches whatever “bingo” fuel level we have selected in the cockpit. .

Ok , this is a wise move and a good (I mean “safe”) way to keep the pilot (you) happy and avoid stress .

This kind of opens up a big discussion of bingo bug management, but suffice to say that we normally have a fuel state that we intend to knock of whatever we are doing and head home, and we set the bug for that initially.

What is the problem with “bingo bug management” ? Is it related to the aircraft or … ?

I think the equivalent to what you are talking about in the Rafale is the “fuel lo” caution, which is a separate system and goes off with < 800#’s remaining in either of the feed tanks. This being generally below our minimum fuel on deck requirements, it is uncommon to hear it

    Ok , I understand . 🙂
One more question , please : in general , how much fuel do you get during an in-flight refueling ? Is it mission related only or is it depending on how far you are from a possible landing solution ? Or both ? (which I think it is)

How long does it take for the Hornet to get one ton of fuel ? In case of very very bad weather , do you have any cues to help you to get to the “basket” ?
Sorry if I ask much but I am trying to put myself in the pilot ‘s seat .
    (I am a Falcon 4 addict :o)

    Cheers.

Are the CFTs operational on the Rafale?

    Of course they are .

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any operational French airforce Rafales with CFTs?

We never needed them so far .

    Cheers .

Do you think that CFTs were part of the technical eval ?

If they were , Rafale came out nicely :

If there ever is a follow on order, it will be additional Rafales. Better yet, Tejas Mk II to get a better fleet compostion. At the moment the IAF get’s a bit top heavy.

Those words have to be marked . Clairvoyant . +1

    I was talking about old dishes TR1 (<–80s) .
Anyway , Russians always liked very long range radars which is normal with the size of the country .
They still try to archive extrem range with Pesa AND Aesa radars …
