tanking from a COD would be pretty crappy from a pilot’s perspective. I’ve done it off a KC-130J (in a Hornet), and that is awkward enough in terms of airspeed and throttle response, I’d think it would be as bad or worse with the mighty COD.

Really ? For inflight refuel you don ‘t have an auto-throttle mode and a less responsive stick to facilitate the process ?
With the Rafale , everybody says it ‘s a breeze .

I doubt the Chinese hackers would be able to access anything properly secure…

I wouldn ‘t bet on it … They ‘re brilliant at hacking .
I ‘ ve been hacked by a chinese once , he managed to get into my secret cupboard and drink 2 glasses of 12 years old cognac before I noticed anything . (I was in the kitchen cooking) .

The concept of an F35B buddy tanking another one gets a bit interesting thinking of the weight problems to say nothing of the setting then up to do it.
Does anyone know if this will be a problem?

On French forums , we discussed of this very question a couple of times …

If I wanted to be cheeky , I wouls say that EVERYTHING wrt weight is a problem with the Naval versions of the JSF (JSFail :D) .
In fact , there is no real solution as how to use the F-35 as a buddy-buddy fuel station . Heck, it ‘s a half-baked project …

The Rafale was short listed on merit, and won on competitiveness. Any skepticism is done for political reasons, to place doubt in the public about the choice. No amount of simulation and “experts” will make the Rafale a lesser plane. In fact they’ve lost all credibility as far as I’m concerned.

It ‘s true but “ouch” the way you say it …

    Mildave :

I wasn’t able to find any specific about the fuel though

About 3100 tons . Which is very good for only 40 flying “things” (choppers included) , it ‘s designed for 10 days intensive .

And btw HAWX , you said :

the JHMCS has been operational since 2003

Same year than the Gerfaut (technicaly speaking but not delivered) .

In this aspect, talking about “years behind the competition” (9 so far to be exact) is hardly an exaggeration.

I would say it is .

    Mildave :

Now apparently they think a two colors HUD is prefarable right now to increase their situational awareness than HMD.

    True .

the French forces doesn’t seem to give the HMD system much faith in general.

False . Both AdlA and NM want the HMD and if they found ways to counter HMD equipped fighters , it is still a pain in the butt not to have it .The problem is with the funding and the funding only .
In 2004 , 336 Gerfault HMDs have been ordered (!) but they are still unpaid by the French DGA (so not delivered) . ๐Ÿ˜ก

The IAF’s short list was well considered. The L1 could have been either one, but the IAF’s selection was based only on professional criteria. Obviously, the IAF was not aware of the price tag at that time.

    Uh ?
Is it me or something is wrong there ?

The rest of the article only reinforce what was known about the technical evaluation (no need for Gripen-NG and SH/Mig-35 coming too short) .
    Good read mind .

If this is true (and not just another “blame game” article) they should thank the Chinese for finding these holes in their systems before this plane gets sent to a warzone.

Range is irrelevant to the point made.

    Well , sort of , I admit ๐Ÿ˜‰

In this aspect, the Rafale is many, many years behind the competition

Exagerated . India will get the HMD in 2018 . Dunno about France yet …

The author has a reputation of sourcing his info from certain forums like these. Ask Scorpion82, I think one of his write ups ended up in one of the “reports”.

You see , his sources are good ! :p
