    My 2 cents :

Indian Rafales vs Pakistani Vipers = ouch for the Vipers
Indian Rafales vs Chinese J-10s = Rafales still win but with a smaller margin

The real deal will be Rafale F4s vs J-20s …

    Cheers .

On the contrary, the saying “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” is most closely followed by India, with a diverse mix in its combat and non-combat fleet, comprising of Russian, French, British, Indian and now American airplanes and helicopters.

Yes I agree and this is what I was saying .
Now , India is not going to buy American planes anymore . I bet a barrel of old Jack Daniel ‘s No 7 on it . 😎
The Typhoon is also out because they don ‘t need a “second best” to their 126 Rafales . The Gripen scored too low and Indians like twin engines fighters with good range . The Mig-35 is a possibility because it is Russian but it is NOT a Sukhoi (read my lips) .
Then , India is also looking at building a strong blue sea Navy and the Rafale M immediatly comes to mind if you ‘re Indian for many reasons I don ‘t need to talk about , we all know . But just in case :
    – home made on the same line (or almost)
    – ease of maintenance
    – ease of training
I could also say cheaper upgrades in the long run because of the numbers involved .
    126 + 80 + 60 (2 Navy Wings) = 266

All home made as F3 standard 😎
Money wise and with the work hour cost in India , beat that !
All they need is to order a Carrier from France and they are up and running by 2020-2025 .

    Cheers .

    Matt :

How do you know about the technical?

A bit lazy to find the various links again but it has already been discussed on this very forum . As a reminder , the Rafale NEVER lost in foreign technical evals and always came first (Singapore , Korea , Brazil , Marocco , Switzerland , UAE and India) .

If I was India , I would order 80 more Rafales but I am not India . They think differently than most of us . The old saying “not all the eggs in the same basket” is irrelevant for them or at least not THAT important .

    I agree with Nicolas .

    Cheers .

A spokesman for the Eurofighter Typhoon said : “we offered the Indian Air Force the most modern combat aircraft available,”

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-16809532

lol ! Poor little spokesman with little knowledge … The Typhoon ALSO lost the technicals ….
    Ooooh the bad looser :diablo:

The decision will be a setback to Eurofighter which had strongly lobbied India to buy its aircraft and considered its bid stronger in terms of performance, security of supply and strategic alignment.

I and many others never really understood why the Eurofighter Team spreaded this BS . Today , they left their space bubble and are now back to Earth . :diablo:

    And J. Lake too .

Do I make a serious mistake in math?

No , you ‘re correct .
Maybe he was including the possible futur orders (India again , UAE , Brazil , Swiss) ?

    (edit : I stand corrected .)

    Nic :

BTW bluewings, I don’t remember which DSI issue that was, but there was an interview of a high ranking french general who said that interoperability was utterly expensive, and could even become a trouble to the french armies in the future because it would make them unable to fund other very necessary stuff to keep an army that could work all by itself.

While it is true , this general is wrong in his thinking . The military futur lies in a strong Europe within (or not) NATO .
Anyway , France ‘s capability to fight on Her own is a tradition and the MoD white book is still going this way .
Nic , I believe that you have a wrong view on what France ‘s futur is . 😉

    Now , you said :

WRT NATO, as an organisation is probably the biggest terrorist group there is, with much much more terrorist acts than any other group (gladio anyone?). It’s a crying shame that we got back into this organisation.

While I understand what you are trying to say in between the lines , I can ‘t agree . If you disagree with the USA ‘s foreign policies , I must say that they have changed a lot since Obama is running the show . Bush is gone Nic , gone . And they are almost bankrupt or not far from it . The USA need a strong Europe more than ever before .
Now , when I listen to you , it reminds me some islamic salafist …
    Sorry to say .

    Cheers .

Nic , my point is about CHANGING how NATO operates , not leaving NATO .

Sooner than some expect , the USA will have to tone down their policies as they already lack the money to enforce them .
Europe is going to become more and more important within NATO (as long as NATO survive) .
It is why I think that the strong European Nations should employ THEIR rules when see fit .

Now , Independance has very little to do with NATO . We decide to participate , or not .
Also , “interoperability” is not a bullsh*t , it is just that the USA must accept more “flexibility” when working with other Forces .

    Cheers .

    Nic :

Thank Sarkozy for dragging us back into NATO

lol ! Well , NATO needs us , don ‘t you think Nic ? 😉
(and we DO need Sarkosy , unless you want “Flanby” ?)

    Cheers .
