    Kiwinopal , I don ‘t want to start a “pi**ing contest .

First , because I am a huge fan of the F-22 🙂 , then because I am also a huge fan of the Rafale 😉

You read me posting rather strong disagreements on the F-35s , but you will hardly find me writing something bad about the F-22 and since you want to hear it , there are only 2 things which I don ‘t like on the F-22 :

    – no IRST or any long range passive device to scan , acquire , target and identify targets . A Rafale will recognize a F-22 at 50km with the TV . A F-22 can ‘t recognize a Rafale unless its pilot use his Mark-I eyeballs . You also must agree that within tight RoE , the Rafale has the advantage . A Russian or Chinese Flanker also share the same advantage , which is dangerous . Don ‘t you agree Kiwi ? 😎

    – no active ECM suite . It only has the ALR-94 which is a passive (listening) suite .

The F-22 deserves both , I tell you . Why is it not fielded is beyond my comprehension … 😡

That being said , in real life Ops I wouldn ‘t like to be in either seats ! That ‘s for sure ! 😮
I say again , if both fighters are using dogfighting missiles , I couldn ‘t bet . The outcome is so uncertain that I stop right there .

    Cheers .

the F-22 holds 28 deg/s STR it is a WVR killer, it will eat Rafale for breakfast

Not likely , I remind you that the F-22 only scored once out of 6 engagements against the Rafale in WVR and that was with canon only .
If both are using IR missiles , well … Who knows 😉

    Cheers .

jackjack , I never had access to French OPSECs .
(edit) —> In fact , I did in few occasions but it was about land warfare against a “sand-box” country . Unfortunately , there is very little I can share about this time , sorry .

I was in the Air Force as a Commando for 7 years (2 years as a sniper in the GIA ~Special Forces)
    1981-1988 .

I ‘ve said it on SP few times …

    Cheers .

    Kiwinopal :

Rafale without full aspect stealth still is not as good as the F-22

I agree . As it stands , the F-22 in BVR is a killer .
Active stealth might change that in a very near future , mind …

    jackjack :

no i’m calling BS on that, i’m going to need a creditable link to show the rafale can maneuver while going backwards in the brief lift to 100 aoa wiping off all speed

It is coming from Dassault . Gimme time and I ‘ll give you the link . Just be patient , thank you 🙂

got a link for that ?

No . I am using Maths (radar range vs RCS) . I rate the SH ‘s RCS at about 1 square meter since I can ‘t find any better number . Can you ?

    Cheers .

    jackjack :

the rafale has poor radar and a2a missiles in comparison

Here we go again ! 😡
Our actual Pesa RBE2 has enough qualities and range to lock on a SH at 100km and our Mica is an excellent missile , thank you very much 🙂

    Cheers .

if ever the french do sell their plane to the likes of libia, the rafale has to be considered in potential threats

Yep , like the Saudi Typhoons …

    classic BW LOL
would you like to tell me how this works, so it wasnt falling, it must be true, the french do have a reverse gear in their planes

I already explained it to you :

“”it only has an airframe and a FBW enabling it to point its nose even during negative speed (and without TVC) . “”

    Cheers .

Wouldn’t any post here concenring U.S. ram procedures beak OPSEC rules?
Arnt you walking on thin ice by asking for this information?

    Maybe , but I couldn ‘t care less as I am NOW a civilian . :D;)

Erkokite , as far as I know , there is no “blocker” inside Rafale ‘s intakes .
But I could be wrong …

Our Rafale M F3s (today) would most probably get a huge kill ratio on the SHs in BVR .
In WVR , our old Raf F1s were already eating alive the SH :

Check at 3:00 and after .
(Btw , the “green” bits (at night) show a Rafale trying to go after another Rafale , it doesn ‘t look easy :o)

the sh has better radar, better weapons and has better sa in the system battlespace
heck even our old 25 yr hornets will give the rafale a run for its money

Who cares where he’s from!?! He is a smart, well-grounded guy and adept politician. I would trade him for Obama in an instant.

It was only for the sake of truth and for nothing else .
    B. Obama is also a well-grounded guy . He ‘s making the USA a better country , I have no doubt .
And don ‘t even dare to call me a socialist :diablo:;)

Thanks Erkokite , from the link :

The wing leading edges, fin leading edges, rudder trailing edge and wingtip DASS/ECM pods are made from a Lithium-Aluminium alloy imparting superior strength to weight than standard aluminium alloys. Additionally these areas are also coated in Radar Absorbent Materials (RAM)

So , it does use the same approach than the Rafale . Good to know 🙂

But the air intakes don ‘t seem to be RAM coated . Are you sure about that because it doesn ‘t look like it on picture .

OTOH , it is obvious on the Rafale and it even shows sawtooth :

    J-7 hotdog :

not going to happen because France’s head of state is ethnically an Israelite

Wrong . Why are you saying that anyway ?

    N. Sarkozy ‘s father :
nagybócsai Sárközy Pál Istvan Ernő . He was a pure Hungarian .
    His mother :
Andrée Mallah , was greek .

    Cheers .
