    The G-10 in Germany has been grounded for about a year now with a blown engine. Rumours have it that the G-6 will be ready for ILA – which is where it made last flight 2 years ago when it blew its engine there! These two aircraft are unlikely to display anywhere else than Berlin (ILA) and Manching, their owners (Willy-Messerschmit-Stiftung) not wanting to take them anywhere without full hull insurance (which costs more than $20,000 for the ILA 2000 display for one aircraft…).

    I thought the Danish Air Force supplied some of the DC-3s.

    Yes, they did!

    1d) T-39 was used a multi-engine and navigator’s trainer (?=

    8d) A lot of people would say that Greenland is the name of the country in which Thule is…

    10) Focke-Wulff/Piaggio P.149 and Fouga Magister (licence built).

    15) A Caravelle was used in France for this purpose.

    if I need to remove the camera batteries while on the plane

    This has never happened to me, but except to have to open the back of the camera for security, or to take a picture if there’s a film in it. And don’t set your hopes too high on escaping screening of your film by carrying them in a separate, clear bag. In my experience it doesn’t work anymore in our post-9/11 society.

    As to Speedtwin i believe it was a new build and think it had something to do with the team behind Thrust ssc,Richard Noble

    It was new build and the designer had nothing to do with the Thust SSC. IIRC, he was a private individual (forget his name now) ex-RAF and an inventor. It was intended to market it as a kit, but the designer died from cancer before these plans came to fruition. It was tested extensively by Pliot Magzine.

    Here’s my current mount, a club-owned C172P built in 1986. That big thing below the engine cowling is an exhaust muffler required by German law if you want to fly reasonably cheap and troublefree. It has since been replaced by a smaller one of another brand (Liese). Picture taken in GA-friendly Nürnberg Airport.

    Aaaaarggh 😡 That turquoise blue livery was so characteristic and stylish. This looks like something designed in 30 secs with Microsoft Paint…..

    It always makes me sick to think about what I might have seen. I have vague memories of going with my Dad to see an American aircraft carrier on a port visit in Copenhagen (imagine that today!), particularly big white and grey aircraft with US markings on them. Have never been able to identify which carrier and aircraft they were and my Dad didn’t bring a camera. I do remember very clearly seeing at the age of 11 the final flight of three SAS Metropolitans flying in perfect formation over our house in Denmark, as well as the Rothmans Team flying over in equally perfect formation at about the same time. My earliest aviation memories are from the little (now closed) airfield from which my Dad flew in the late 60s/early 70s. Several C172 and Cherokees, a Colt, Turbulent, a Tiger Moth and a V-tail Bonanza – the same aircraft you see today!

    Any idea why: 1) They dumped the 747’s;

    In the mid-eighties the CEO Jan Carlzon decided that SAS should become the “Business Man’s Airline” with more flights using smaller aircraft. The B747 was too big for this and the aircraft were sold.

    Less than one year in an SAS Caravelle Copenhagen <-> London (so I’m told). First flight in a GA aircraft at approx. 4 years (my Dad’s Piper Colt). First solo flight at the age of 28 in a Bölkow Monsun. Have flown in 50 different aircraft types by now.
