RE: Not in the spirit of FlyPast

I think that anyone with a hobby should be able to accept having his legged pulled now and then. Which is what my reply above was intended as; I have nothing against other people’s innocent hobbies. Having said that though I absolutely detest step ladders being brought to airshows and erected right at the fence where you wouldn’t need one anyway. I was at an airshow last year where I saw several representatives of the ladder/notebook/camera/binocular brigade recklessly elbowing even young children out of the way to get to what they perceived as the best places. It has also gone unnoticed that a group of Dutch spotters were temporarily arrested at an airbase in Switzerland (where only Pilatus’ facilities in Emmen are reported as being “sensitive”; in fact spotting AND photography onto an airbase is as far as I know explictly allowed as long as it takes place from pubilc grounds) in September and while I am quite sure that the majority of the people in pursuit of this hobby go about it in a discrete and correct manner, there is unfortunately a significant number of them who do not (and I am not necessarily saying that the Greek group belongs to the latter as I am not sufficiently familiar with the case to know) and who puts all aircraft enthusiasts in a bad light to Joe Public by doing so.

@Sadsack: The wings do indeed seem short, but that’s the way they’re supposed to be!

@Ant: The front page of Flug Werk’s homepage (http://www.flugwerk.de) shows how the aircraft is going to be painted.

I would speculate that one (hopefully both) of the following events planned for next year could very well be the first public flying display of the FW190: The Aero 2003 exhibition in April 2003 in Friedrichshafen (on the Lake Constance in South Germany), or the 100 Years Deutsches Museum celebration in Oberschleissheim (Munich) on 17/18.05.03.

If no reply is forthcoming here then try this German board where you can also post in English and which specializes in WW2 Luftwaffe matters:

    RE: RE%3A A photographic question

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-10-02 AT 04:39 PM (GMT)]Yes, I did but due to the enormous crowd I couldn´t get anywhere near it to photograph during its first public engine run and I had left by the time it did its second run. Were you also there; have noticed that you posted a picture of the second engine run? The photos I did take do not show much more than this one does.

Just noticed that you are Roger S as in Roger Soupart, so judging from what I have seen in many years of aviation magazine reading you will probably not need much advice as far as aircraft photography is concerned…. 😉

    RE: A photographic question

I bought one of those about 4 months ago and use it with a Canon EOS-3. I am v-e-r-y pleased with it, although it is a bit heavy. Pictures are very crisp and the autofocus is very quick. The image stabilizer is great, although it gets confused if you move the camera too quickly in the panning mode (e.g. when photographing a fast jet). I don’t think you will regret buying it…

See this link for a picture I took with it:

Quite a few contributors to airliners.net use it too.

Glad you liked it, Steve. Did you notice the KZ-IIT frame on wheels? I participated in its restoration…!

    a good one in Denmark…

Cross the bridge or take a ferry over to Copenhagen, go to the Main station (Hovedbanegarden), take the train to Helsingoer (Elsinore, as “translated” into English) and go visit Danmarks Flyvemuseum.
Interesting aircraft on display include a beautifully restored PBY-6A, Saab 17A, one of only two KZ-IV ever built and more. If you go by
car there’s a motorway all the way. Should be 1 1/2 hrs drive from
    Malmö at the most

    See: http://www.tekniskmuseum.dk/flyramme.htm

    for more info!

Never heard of such a thing in an aero engine! Where did you hear
about this component? Do you by any chance mean the inertia starter?

Ooops, I think I started something by mentioning that Cessna 152.
Before we are deemed “off-topic” by discussing modern (well, relati-
vely speaking) types, is there a board where such a discussion is
    more appropriate…?

My remarks re the grocery chain paint scheme was intended to be

from this. But pretty it ain’t…

    RE: K5054 replicas

I believe that the one you’re mentioning was indeed the du Cros
replica and that it never flew again afterwards. Otherwise,
the Spitfire Society had a static replica built which was (is?)
    displayed in the RAF Museum.

Steve: I fly from Eggenfelden in South-East Germany (EDME)…

Coanda: Wasn’t all that keen on those high-wings either but I
adored its responsiveness, when compared to its bigger brother, the
    C172.

A Stearman, Stinson Reliant, WACO YKS-6 and a J3C-65 are based
in EDME too. The club C172 is squeezed in between the Stearman
and the Stinson and they look just awesome in comparison. Seeing
their pilots wrestle with these aircraft in gusty winds has made
me a firm believer in tricycle u/c until the day I have lots of
time and lots of money to get safely involved with tailwheels.
Until then I will be quite happy watching these a/c from the
    ground only….
