    It’s not a refueling probe it’s a luneburg lens.

Hey according to Picard it’s a stealth feature because the probe is angled!

(No mention of the retractable refueling probe of other planes like the Typhoon, which are hidden away from sight and radar when not refueling.)

    (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

No ctrl surfaces to be seen

    They’re stealthy — that’s why you can’t see them.

    http://www.defensenews.com/story/defense/air-space/2016/02/15/f-35-trans-atlantic-flight-featured-all-italian-support/80406388/

During the 2,442 nautical mile flight to the US, the aircraft flew in a corridor 10-12 miles wide by 3,000 feet while the two slower C-130Js took up positions along the route, so either would be nearby if a pilot went down.

Despite strong turbulence, the F-35 refueled four times and the Eurofighter five times, often enough to mean that if a refueling appointment was canceled, the aircraft still had enough fuel to make it to an alternate airstrip.

Not sure why that’s relevant, seeing as how it says they wanted all planes to have enough reserve fuel onboard for an alternate airstrip, so they weren’t exactly trying to test the range of the planes. It also said that the F-35 and Eurofighter each did 3 refuelings during the 2,105 nautical mile flight to the Azores.

Though question regarding the external fuel tanks, are they themselves also capable of being refueled in flight? I assume it depends on their design and that of the airplane they’re attached to; I’m not familiar enough with the Typhoon to know this.

In contrast to PakFa T-50-4 whom flew Far East-Russia=/=>Moscow years ago.. Some 6000-7000km.
    Prrzt what a bummer..

Easy enough to Google this one:

    http://www.airforce-technology.com/news/newsrussia-fourth-t50-prototype-aircraft-long-range-flight

The fourth T-50 multirole fighter aircraft prototype of the Russian Air Force has performed its first long-range test flight at Sukhoi’s manufacturing plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Khabarovsk Krai, Russia.

The aircraft made multiple intermediate stops while travelling from the Komsomolsk-on-Amur facility to the airport at the M.M. Gromov Flight Research Institute in Zhukovsky, near Moscow, without showing any impact on engines, systems or equipment performance.

Googling around, Sputnik News says the T-50 has a maximum flight duration of 3.3 hours, which makes multiple intermediate stops necessary and makes it difficult or unable to make the same trip here (across the Atlantic). I assume that will be rectified in the future.
