Sad News, especially coming so soon after the Blackpool incident.
I have a soft-spot for the 111, I used to play on the Channel Airways ones aged 4, flew on Courtline ones in the early ’70s, and then years later went to Dublin in an EAC one from Luton in ’96, and after years of Boeings, it felt closer to travelling in a Hawker 800 than a 737 – much more agile and less than half the distance from the ground on it’s undercart, which on roundout made me wonder for a moment if he had forgotten it!
We appreciate the sacrifice!:)
Nice Pics
Anyone prepared to guess whether the use of a Gnat doing touch and goes to clear snow is a tall story (or not)?
There was an article on it recently in either Pilot or Today’s Pilot, I will try and find it.
Camlobe’s post rings so true of my meagre experience with RAF Techs…
Both him and my Daughter like going for lunch at the Flying Club, they can’t wait for me to get my PPL back and have a flight in ‘BOZI
My Daughter has already flown in a Dragon Rapide (AA’s blue one) and a Squirrel egg-beater!
With both my Father (Gooney Bird) and I exerting our influence, and the provenance of their Great Grandfathers in Aviation, at least one of them must end up interested!
Aah Ozplane, were you the one sat with the Auster Chap in the clubhouse?
I may have spoken to you if that was the case, Rhys and I had our lunch at the next table after he had been out to play in the Warrior:
I am sure if Tom Cruise had worn a Bob-the-Builder hat, he would have pulled Kelly McGillis much faster…..
Ozplane, shame I missed you!
I arrived at just after 12 (by road), took my son out to see the Warrior I normally fly, and then partook of some lunch.
I then bumped into Arm Waver, who took us down to the other end to see the aircraft parked down there (seemed a shame to park some aircraft down there when there was space on the apron)
Good to meet you AW! Thanks for taking us down the other end, Rhys really enjoyed that, although I realsied when we got back that I had not taken any photos!
Lovely Auster:
Nanchang/Yak Thing (someone correct me please!)
Nice Cub:
Couple of pictures by my 3 year old son!

My guess is that the black stripes on the wings in the photo are for orientation purposes
We like you a lot.
aww shucks:o
I found this in my copy of Aircraft ’69, a 12′ model made of GRP dropped from a Helo at 4000′
Janie, will you be dropping into Conington on Sunday for the VAC rally?
Google brought up

Joe Petroni operates his Auster from Tollerton, I assume he will have had contact with the club there at some point?
Something like that yes… (I tend not to be totally orange these days…)
I sometimes drag my kids along to the odd event too – mind you I have to watch them so that they don’t join in!!!
I am sure that my 3 and 6 year olds would love to help with some marshalling, the Apron would probably resemble my Son’s box of planes….with just as many intact props and tailplanes:D
One of the issues is that in the UK they don’t like to mix Airline and GA traffic too closely. Luton used to have a flying club, but I think that has gone now.
There is North Weald which is 25 miles from Stansted, if you can fly into Cambridge, Coventry or Norwich they all have flying clubs, I am not sure about the others.
I may have to bring the Kids, but I will certainly pop along for an hour or 2 over lunch time.
I assume you’ll be the one inconspicuously dressed in Orange frantically waving?:D
