Nice Pics, good to see the Viscount in such good fettle!
The one with the Nimrod wing looks so clean, much better than podded installation.
I like the whole concept, such a shame it never left the drawing board
If you lot are not going to wash your overalls, then I’m beginning to think that Nomex overalls should only be worn in very well ventilated aircraft.
The big fan on the top of the Wessex wasn’t there to aid flight, it was there for ventilation 😀 (especially after a night on the beer served in the mess…)
First thing to do is to practice taxying it around to get the feel of the throttle and controlling the throttle and rudder on the same stick (you will need this on takeoff & Landing) then take off and fly an oval race-track above and to the front of you and get the aircraft trimmed to fly almost hands off. Then try and fly the racetrack in the opposite direction, when you are happy with that, do a figure of 8 in both directions, then try a few approaches (with height to spare), each one a bit slower to get the feel of the controls (they get mushy at slow speeds/near the stall).
Please don’t forget that the Aileron controls will be back to front when coming towards you. 😮
In service we never cleaned them, we returned them once a month to Safety flight for ‘Checking’ and received very clean ones in return….
Now that’s a shame 😡
No Egg-Beating skule at Shawbury
He had probably leaned the mixture a tad, that with tip-tanks would provide the necessary endurance
Scarves though are outwardly feminine, so you won’t see them on me ever. 🙂
There used to be an instructor on 2 FTS that wore the Silk Scarves of Hostie conquests…..
Good to have an ‘Ops Normal’ from you SFF!
good work!
Isn’t there a Stirling project in China?
I’ll get my coat…. 😀
Strangely enough, my parents visited at the weekend, and brought over my bag of old Uniform stuff. In there was my Combat Flying suit (2 piece, DPM material), whilst the jacket still fitted, the trousers seem to have shrunk considerably! 😀
I think I may see what they are going for on Evil-bay
I assume it still has the original turbojets fitted?
I remember returning from a trip standing at the end of Mildenhall’s runway covered in soot from the KC135s, the amount of smoke they chucked out was incredible!
Pete, glad he has made a full recovery, having been through a serious medical situation with my younger brother a month before his wedding, I know how much more the celebration means 🙂
we also had the first ever female SWO at valley in the early/mid 80’s (maam beasley), being a liney at the time we crossed swords on quite a few occasions, a right old dragon she was!
Hmm, I was never quite sure that ours was the first ever female SWO, but I was there in ’88, so Valley was obviously before us!
It’s funny that there was a no pets rule in the Sgt’s Mess, but she kept 2 dogs in her room…..
