Got myself a Panasonic Lumic FZ5 on eBay for £137 late last night (12 x Optical 5M) 😀 , I’ll let you know what it’s like once I get it and have a play
As long as you logbook is filled in correctly and signed by the CFI, I would imagine that your new school would want to do a check-ride before deciding at what point in the syllabus to start you off.
How far in are you? Have you taken the ground exams yet?
DarrenBe,
Thanks I am looking at the FZ20/30 and the FZ5 & 7, the main attraction is the Leica lens, the 5&7 have less shutter lag, but the 20 & 30 have hotshoe fitting for a bounce flash, which is attractive….The Canon S2 is still in the frame as well.
I am just waiting for funds to build up in Paypal, so should be buying one this weekend.
I would have got one last weekend, but a lethal combination of putting a new motor in my Rega record deck, watching the ‘best albums ever’ and a large quantity of wine, means that I have around 6 pieces of 12″ vinyl heading for my house and a corresponding hole in my Paypal account….
Lovely Photos, My favourite type
Good to see the MATS Connie being good use!
Mad! but I would be tempted if there was one lying around, wouldn’t you?
As for getting the way of jet efflux, for some reason someone thought it was a good idea to put one of the Weesex’s exhausts just in front of the door, not only did it make everything blurred when you looked out, it was always a shock when you forgot to duck under it on the way in/out of the cabin. It also gave you chronic diaro, diareah, dirhe….the runs for the first 2 weeks on squadron 😀
One of my model clubmates ran his Jetcat P80 up in his dining room (125 db!) and I have seen video footage of a jet model catching fire where the guys did not have an extinguisher, and had to stamp the fire out!!
Thanks for the responses on the cockpit colour thing, taking a similar vein, when I was in charge of a large Computer rollout across EMEA we took the decision to lock the desktops to the standard greeny/blue colour, as we supposed that Macroslap would have spent millions deciding on the most restful colour, rather than Gloria in accounts changing it to Pink on Purple. Funnily enough there were 2 countries that complained the most…. 😀
Created by the French in the first instance 😉
A cunning ploy to slow the rest of us down!
I assume that they have a large thumb attached to the nose?
Why are Russian Cockpits always such a bright Green or Blue?
I Like the idea of having a large helicopter to play with at dinner parties, just the kind of thing once everyone’s had a bit to drink…
My Grandfather worked for them in the ’40s, I will ask my Dad for more details.
I believe he was head of maintenance for a flying training squadron
Thanks for the suggestions Rob, I will troll ebay and see what’s what
Janie, methinks you did this post before injection of caffeine & Corn flakes! 😀
Hi Jeremy, we do not know each other but never mind, I undestand your happiness being back in the air and I am glad for you.
I have had a similar feeling 5 years ago and I know it’s great. If your flights leave you some time, read my story on http://www.pfiquet.be/icarus.pdf
Have a great fun up there
Philippe, Hi, I have looked through your dissertation, makes very interesting reading! almost the opposite to me, you had to fight to get into the air, whereas I was awarded a flying scholarship at 17, and then joined the RAF as Aircrew, but did not really appreciate any of it and threw it all away.
Must try smoking a Pipe whilst flying a Fennec…. 😀
Yes, the old Varsity leaked copiously but the rain came in through the panel outside of the main winshields. This was a three-piece plexiglas affair. By unscrewing a knob on the centre portion, this could be brought towards the pilot and pulled up. Great for fresh air but the lack of a seal allowed water ingress – and it all ended up in my left boot!
Good to hear Russ! The Channel Airways crews had to wear wet-weather gear if rain was forecast!
On a general note, didn’t some of the Varsities carry a pod underneath? I have heard stories about hapless student pilots scraping them on runways when forgetting to lower the small round rubber things
I recall my Grandfather telling me about a similar incident on 19 Sqn in ’39-ish
