I attended Anglian Flight Training at Norwich in 1986, they went bust later that year after the CFI was killed.
I have just done my Renewal at Conington and am very pleased with the standard of instruction, the atmosphere and facilities, their approach to safety and the pricing.
There is also a 1955 Piper Apache being advertised at the moment for £15k, which seems criminally cheap for a lovely looking aircraft, but the running costs just preclude it from being a worthwhile undertaking. (Aztecs start from about £30k as well)
You have to get your twin rating, your engine & prop maintenance is double, all your landing fees are double, the short-field/strip performance may not be brilliant and you can get some fairly basic/cheap singles that will out lift/perform them:(
Niiiice!
Based just down the road from me as well…..hmmm must get a twin rating once I re-qualify!
I have always liked these and they are ridiculously cheap as well, just the performance (marginal on 1 engine) and the running costs put people off
Good one MD!:D
Good luck in your new Posting!
Good luck with the Initiation….Do they still do the Hubey-call?
Have fun moulding the RAF of tomorrow;)
Must take a look at that book, My Grandfather transferred from the Paras into Raiding Forces (SAS & LRDG) late in 1941 and spent some time working behind enemy lines;)
Unfortunately his War diary stops when he transfers
Saw the Beautiful sight of the Lancaster beating up Wyton last night on my way home, I wish I had my camera as it was very evocative heading off over Warboys to Upwood at low level into the bright Orange Sunset!:)
I used to be in the luxurious position of just going over to the Ops room and selecting the maps I needed for that day’s sortie. I would cut and glue them to the right shape (with diversions obviously) fastidiously apply all notams and amendments followed by expert fablon-ing to give them a bit of strength/water resistance when you had the door open.
Of course you’d do all that and march proudly back to the squadron only to be told that plans had been changed……..
Nice Wessex Porn there!
What DC3 is it from Ipswich?
Is this the one with the Nose from one of the Bruntingthorpe ex-RAe ones?
No, not jealous, no, not at all, I like my office, no, I really do, honest!
Oh alright, I admit it, i am as jealous as hell!
Nice Pics!
They really need to get this simulator checked out, it seems to keep getting annoying failures at the most inopportune times:eek: 😉 😀
Keep up the good work!
There is a Miles Gemini advertised for sale at the moment, I have always had a hankering for one of those!
There seems to be a bit of interesting stuff around within the ‘price range’ a couple of Stearmans, a Tiger Moth, some Yaks…I only have 14 years of paying private education left:(
