It would make a great emergency generator for power cuts!
(probably a bit noisier than a Honda 4 stroke though…) 😀
“Scuse me mate, is there an airfield around ‘ere?”
Sooo, where has she gone?
I think you’ll find that it was a Gauloise he was smoking. Galoise are entirely different 😉
I knew there was a ‘U’ in there but didn’t know where to put it….
Thanks, I know the look, There was an instructor on 2 FTS who wore a different (trophy) Airline Stewardess’ scarf with his flying suit every day, it seemed to compliment his moustache and the smoking of a Galoise….
These are all good questions WB, and of a type which even FLYING will not be able to answer.
My advice though would be never to evacuate yourself in a dayglo flight suit.
Good solid advice as ever!
Is there any way of dressing Nomex up upon arrival at ones destination? For instance; a jauntily tied Cravatte or a rather fetching waistcoat & matching shoes?
Can anyone give me a lift back in the direction of Bedford sometime in the afternoon?
Ollie, I am aiming to get there 1-1:30 ish and will probably leave 3ish, heading back up the A1, so can drop you somewhere like Sandy if that’s any use?
Trinny,
I am after some advice, what is this season’s must-wear for the Tyro aviator?
Whilst low-slung cargo pants look practical with all of those pockets a la my old flying suit, I am concerned about snagging during emergency evacuation.
Should one dress for flying in case of any impromptu dinner/all day breakfast invitations?
Is dayglo ever acceptable?
Yours Lost

Yes, there is a splash on the right, but it looks like 150 left it’s tailplane on deck (leaning against the intake of the one on the left facing the camera..
Albert – I should duck down before the ‘friendly fire’ hits you from Elvington Victor crew! Regards the RAFM Vulcans – certainly corrosion shouldn’t be an issue with the Hendon example but a look up in the undercarriage bays reveals that much of the pipework and wiring isn’t intact because of her move.
I had my soul stirred by Lusty Lindy at Elvington in the summer (and their Bucc)
what of the Valiants? I know that there is one at Hendon, but are there any others? (other than Simon Steggall’s 17′ span one…I enclose pictures that I have posted before from the Large Model Association’s website)
Oops! 😮 lucky it all stayed on the dry bit….. 😀
Nice piece, it’s certainly come on a lot since you found it, looking forward to seeing it with sky beneath it’s wings…. 🙂
I bought my Wife a trial lesson a few years ago (as part of my ‘back to the sky’ campaign) and she was a bit apprehensive, but the instructor was very good (Graham at Conington) and she thoroughly enjoyed it. (saw the house, missed approach to Alconbury, etc)
When she returned she said:
“That was great, I don’t want to get my Licence or anything, but you should get yours back” Result! 😎
ChickenHawk is always good for a (re)read, gritty Vietnam Huey Pilot drama, and technically pretty good as well.
I saw an episode of ‘Skybound’ on Disco Wings about Propliners and they showed a DC3 carting carcasses in S. America. The villagers could hitch a lift as well, paying by the pound, and they just had to stand in the Fuselage…They showed 2 middle aged ladies in their sunday best leaning against the carcasses….and the village kids hanging onto the Elevator as it taxied out!
They also showed an airline operating out of the Dominican Republic with 2 DC7s and A Connie!
