Bruce, I will try and get a leave pass, but I may have to grease the wheels by bringing my son (almost 3, almost potty trained!) Would that be an issue?
He is generally very good, and enjoys Duxford and Old Warden on a regular basis, if he gets wriggly I will just take him out.
I can also pop into the Koi centre at Henlow on the way home to price up a new fish tank, 2 hobbies dealt with in one trip!
Thanks
There was an article on it in one of the comics (Pilot or Today’s Pilot) and it looked a really good prospect, great value compared to the full size…and once in the air, who can tell?
Speaking of replicas, I saw the ickle P47 advertised that was subject to a magazine article, has it been sold now?
Nice!
Is that the Ausie replica?
A Helicopter Crewman’s whole career is built on not trusting the Pilot and asking to get off……
That’s not fair, the vast majority that I flew with were fine, some just needed reminding of their Port & Starboard when shutting down the duff engine… 😮
Good to see classic Arnie film ‘Commando’ soooo bad in sooo many ways, but it’s one redeeming feature (apart from pretty air stewardess) is the use of a Grumman Goose to get to the Island.
The final shot of the Goose flying off into the sunset is very atmospheric….

Did you know that Stanley Ward has written a book?Tales Out of Flying School
The Auto-biography of an Instructor in Service and Civil Flying
ISBN 0952809400Kevboy.
Kevboy, Thanks! I will look that up.
Dad has joined the Forum now as “Gooney Bird”!!
Nice!
I have always liked the Swedish left-field approach to things, that’s probably why I am on my 5th SAAB car! 😀
i think in the forces there’s a definate them and us divide between groundcrew and pilots, although after a few beers that divide does start coming down!
i think a lot of it is down to the british military background, our company pilots can be a little standoffish at times, but when you get chatting to foreign military aircrew, or civilian aircrew, there’s no barrier at all.
PPL pilots (on the rare occasion i deal with them) always seem more down to earth.
I was taught a salutary lesson by the Groundcrew Crew-Chief when I was an arrogant Aircrew T**t in the RAF and that has stayed with me throughout life, valuing everybody’s contribution to an endeavour, work or personal.
Caught the end of the ‘Skybound’ programme on Amphibians last night on Disco wings, they described the Chalk’s Turbo Mallard as a Turbo Goose! (slightly lost credibility there….)
The question I have is:
What is the Plural for a Grumman Goose?
Is it Grumman Gooses, or Grumman Geese?
Answers on a postcard please…..

Oh yes, and I collect train numbers as well. I’ve got one and it’s in my study at home. Nine square feet of scrap aluminium from Collector’s Corner, 55 018 it says :-)[/QUOTE]
My Dad’s Gardener has a Deltic Cab in his Garden…..you don’t see that in yer garden make-over programmes!
Quite so.
The whole pilot sub-culture is based on the quality (and quantity) of food available at any destination.
Moggy 😉
One of the many Incidents contributing to the sudden failure of my short RAF Career was being caught making the final adjustments to the winning entry of the ‘Most ingredients in a sandwich’ competition by the visiting Aldergrove Station Commander, accompanied into the 2FTS crewroom by my CO….
I was just adding the Kit-Kat layer between the Tuna and Primula Cheese Spread layers, bringing the total to 15…… 😀
Nice Pictures, I was there on ATC Summer camp in ’87, spent all week as tyro flight-line tech on 31 sqn Tornados. Of course I was made to stand just where the jet blast would knock me off my feet, my brand new RAF issue coat and blue overalls went ‘missing’ and the TV crew trying to interview me in front of the crew-room kept having to stop and restart due to the lewd messages being held up in the windows…..
We went to Roermond most nights for a drink (just before the IRA shooting there) and I was picked up by the RAF Police late one night wandering around AMQs, drunk, after spending the evening with a Brat who fed me her absent father’s Carlsberg Special Brew all night…my first night spent in a guard room….A week of new experiences! 😀
Ozplane, thanks for the info, always been a fan of the Grumman Amphibians!
I have flown on a couple of Mallards (Chalks Miami-Bimini-Nassau & another Long Beach-Catalina Island, can’t recall the operator), but never a Goose.
Do you know how long it will be there?
Also Check out the culture of the club, is it just there to get you through PPL, with the instructirs just hours building, or do they offer other types, a social scene and career instructors?
A Deltic, unless I am much mistaken.
Ahhh, Trinny, you reveal much from this simple statement.
Are you so down on Aircraft Spotters because you are from a much older breed…..dare I say it…..A Train Spotter!!?? 😮
