By happy circumstance I have seen the following;
driving past duxford in the mid ’70s,”Dad is that Concorde?” “Don’t be so sill…oh yes so it is!” as it did it’s flyby before landing.
Driving past Duxford a few years later: ” Dad is that a B29?”, “Don’t be so…Oh yes it is!” as it did it’s flyby before landing
Driving past Wyton in the early ’80s, and seeing 4 vulcans sat there, we parked up just as they did a 1 minute scramble over our heads, Glorious!
Last Summer we were treated to a fantastic display by the BBMF Lanc over our village (Warboys, ex Pathfinders station)
hmmm your downdraughts can easily be sorted old chap:

Only £2.40, fantastic!
Btw , how did you know about these so readily?
Gave it a try at Lunchtime as my wife was out, I put the edition of Aircraft stories about US choppers (sky+ is great!) and tried some of those vietnam-style maneuvures, which was fine until I overshot a quickstop, hit the tree and dropped it from about 5′.
Tree was OK, but have knocked the Horiz Stabiliser off the tail….still flies Ok though!
From the List ,L39, I have a 40″ span RC one with Snoopy Check-riding Gromit in the cockpit ( don’t ask!)
In general I have dreamt of restoring and Flying a Connie in the UK with my lottery-gotten gains, and a Wessex HC2 to get me to and fro (much like Tim Manna uses his Wasp to get from home to North Weald)
I’ve looked at the site, and still can’t work it out!
I like the Cessna 165 Airmaster though….I saw one for sale recently and thought it would make a nice family cruiser!
My brother is getting married out there in early ’07, so a report would be most welcome, if it is any good I will add it to the list of must-dos…..
Merry Christmas All!
Here’s hoping for some aviation-goodies emerging from Santa’s Sack!
Of course flying my helicopter in the lounge is seriously curtailed, as the downdraft upsets the decos (and my wife!)
Years ago I flew from the old Doncaster Airfield (I was stationed at Finningley) where they did meat-bombing at weekends. Us locals knew that we had to shut down during bomb-runs (‘divers legs & propellers do mix, it is just a bit messy!). There had been an incident recently where an ‘diver had landed on a prop down south.
A visiting Seneca driver was in a hurry to depart, started up and called for taxi clearance. ATC advised him a drop was about to happen and he was to shut down….he refused (I was listening from the Club ops room). There followed a heated debate for about 5 mins, it was only when the CFI called him and stated that he would be reported to the CAA for breach of the ANO that he shut down, the CFI then marched purposefully out the a/c………
My workshop is so full of presents I can’t make the Stbd Wing Panel for my DC3…I was hoping to have it roughly together by now…hmmpphh!
Merry Christmas!
Tallboys & Bouncers?
sad news…having a wing come off in flight would indicate a Spar failure, I suppose a lifetime of shock-loads in a salt water environment has to take it’s toll
That Lockheed 12 is something special!
Thanks, great photos!
I think it must have been an Albatross for that many people, I flew on a Chalk’s Piston Mallard back in ’80 to Bimini then Nassau, and from my distant memory it was an 8 seater, I think the turbo Mallards could carry a couple more, but not many.
If anyone is out in Miami and at a loose end, then take a trip, it is a fantastic experience and Bimini has to be the best Airport in the world! You land in the lagoon, drop the wheels, taxi up onto the beach, and then sit under a palm tree whilst they turn the A/c round!
We obviously used to operate the Wessex with the door open most of the time, unless we were transiting, which if you were doing fairly mundane handling got a bit chilly (the 100mph wind chill generator on top didn’t help!)
If we were doing intense handling such as Underslung loads, slope-side landings or confined areas, it could be -10 and you could have sweat pouring off you!
The Wessex had a cabin heater, but it was extremely intense, made the cabin very stuffy and tended to make passengers sick, so it was rarely used….
Where are you located?
