I have a vague recollection that it was an AEF Fly-in, I will have a check around
13 Flt 3 Sqn by the way, March 15th 1988!
You were probably on your last 2 weeks (MFT et al) when I started!
At the time we were there, there was a stunning blonde (female) PTI who was as fierce as she was attractive (think Police Academy, a film of that era). We used to thoroughly enjoy those hard Circuit training sessions with her goading and be-littling us….
anyhoo, there I was about 9-10 months later sat very early having breakie in the Sgt’s Mess at Shawbury (duty Crewman), when a voice behind says ‘Mind if I join you?’ I turned and there she was! after an initial chat I came clean and told her that I had been one of her charges a mere 9 months before, and had thoroughly enjoyed it! She looked most surprised!
I took a much more active interest in fitness……
I enjoyed Swinderby (17 Flight, April ’88 intake), Like Roobarb, it involved a lot of running around, it felt like an extended Cadet Camp….
There was one other ex Cadet Flight Sargent in my flight, so our flight Corporal left us to do the main drill training, just checking on progress occasionally, then when we got to weapons training, our Rock Ape found out I was range qual’ed on the SLR, so left me to train my group in field stripping, etc…I got payback during MFT when the same rock-ape allowed me to sit out some of the later, more arduous parts….
Oh, the first blemish appeared on my record when I stitched a loud-mouthed member of 18 flight in the lunch queue….. 😮
Was it behind 6 Hangar where we took the WAAFs for intimate discussions?:diablo:
Shame it’s all going, that’s Swinderby and Finningley gone now:(
Nice Vid, Hopefully a sight we can see again within the next couple of months…..
I can’t help with the flying site, I’m afraid, but I have often thought that it would be great to have a paramotor in the boot of the car, for those spur of the moment “I wonder what that looks like from the air?” opportunities.
I know that they are starting to get a bit of regulation now, but it is probably the free-est form of powered flight.
I am sure that you’re power to weight ratio is something that varies wildly from machine to machine….and probably prior to and apres lunch:D
Congrats!
I became an Uncle again on the same day, my Brother’s wife had a son at 01:15.
At least I now have someone to pass on my Son’s Wessex T Shirt, Red Arrows Flying Suit and Tom Cruise Jacket to! 😀
Not that there will be any indoctrination (Dad has already ordered the model Channel Airways Trident as his Christening Present)
Great News!
Who’s on first base
You’d have to catch me first……;)
Que?
I have just (re)done my air law using the AFE book and then the Confuser. The questions are similar in style but not exactly the same.
Tip: use the back of the paper to draw the pictures of aircraft with lights to help visualise collision risk/right of way and also any questions about taking off/landing at an airfield with no fixed runway (I answered AR*e about face on that one:( )
According to a thread on another forum, it was an Andrewsfield based Aircraft.
Sad loss
Well Done BR!
I haven’t done any GA night flying yet, but used to enjoy it in the Wessex.
Trying to read the Decca map with a red-filtered torch…joy!
Landing on a signal Tee….or Landrover Lights:eek:
But the best bit was the initiation ceremony where the crewman had to stand out on the step and close the door behind them at 1500′ on your first Solo(your monkey Harness still on obviously) that felt like another world!:D 😎
Happy Birthday Martin!
Must get up to MAM this spring….
Welcome
Glad to see the UK PPL can fly Aircraft the USAF can’t…..
