Didn’t try it on with any admiral’s daughters, did you? :diablo:
I spent a very pleasant weekend with the daughter of OC 11sqn during the ’88 Finningley Air show….
When i saw Brize I thought C-130S and imagined G-ASML would be doing circuits in the Luton, stopping to chat to descending parachutists!
Or he could try your T6 Trick and watch them from above whilst inverted!
Dave T – brilliant!
So Wessex Boy do you still feel the need for speed? 😀
ahem…Yes, I have just managed to get down from 9 to 6 points on my driving Licence, but am back in a SAAB turbo with one or two Abbott Racing upgrades….so am expecting upward movement again!
Take me to bed, or lose me forever! (never failed that one…well Ok it worked once..)
Certainly did, and not from an Inwoods plan!!!!! think he might have you shot for that!!! They were DB designs built at The DB Models Factory in Irchester Northants, i know, i was there with me dope brush and spray can.
We also made a large scale Auster for the series as well as the DC3’s, six of them i think? not all survived the filming!!!!!!
Shame the second series got cancelled, York’s connies and all sorts were on the drawing board!
Apologies for the mistake, Inwoods is my local Model Shop, and in one of the comics last month it showed a picture of the Ruskin DC3 and stated it was from the Inwood plan!? (I will check to see where it was seen)
Dave, the owner of Inwoods, once showed me the plans from which they made the 10′ span kit and offered to do me one, but at the time it was a little beyond my budget/capability and beyond sensible Electric power. I was very pleased when the Tony Nuijhus 6′ one was released!
There is of course the GWS Almost Ready to Fly 5′ span one that retails for £45 if anyone wants to make their own series 2 of Airline….
The most difficult part of learning to fly radio control, especially if you have flown full size, is the complete lack of feedback and spacial awareness. You have to re-programme your thumbs to your eyes (much in the same way as learning to use a Computer Mouse) and you have to be able to put yourself in the cockpit mentally.
I have had my helicopter for almost a year, and I can still only hover nose-in for about 30 seconds before the brain has enough and disconnects from the thumbs(all Cyclic controls are reversed when it is pointing towards you) in that case I kick the rudder to put it tail in, and my brain immediately relaxes, and I can hover tail-in pretty effectively without thinking about it.
Simon Spent a couple of weeks out in Hungary or similar whilst they filmed his FW190, he spent most evenings in the Bar with the cast and said that they were a pretty down to earth fun lot to be with…
Natch – but use the mute button and watch some brilliantly shot air to air aeros with some classic jets instead!
Regrettably he didnt take the ‘Goose’ option 🙁
Goodness Gracious Great Balls of fire!
Does this mean that I am going to have to re-learn the lines to ‘You’ve lost that Loving Feeling’ and ‘Sitting on the Dock o’ the Bay’
Joing the RAF a year after Top Gun was Released meant many cheesy attempts to impress women with poor renditions of the above….whilst stationed at Finningley it worked a treat, Girls near Swinderby & Shawbury weren’t so easily impressed….
Seeing Lusty Lindy at Max-chat at Elvington.
It is the first time that I have seen a V Bomber on Take-off power for many a year.
My Kids (Daughter 5, Son 2) going absolutely mad over the Red Arrows and the Utterly Butterley Team at Elvington, my Daughter’s favourite Aircraft is now a Stearman!! (great taste!)
Ohh, and finally convincing my wife that when I have my mid-life crisis in 2 years time, instead of buying a Porsche, I can get my PPL back…..
“….I See Blue Skys in the distance….”
Nice Piece, very moving
How many warbirds have you seen for sale on eBay??
So far this year I have seen quite a few Static ones, including a Whirlwind & Hunter, (Tempting at £2k!) and also the occasional flying one albeit a bit further down the scale (Auster AOP!)
I did discuss with a well-known collector at a party over the summer, the feasibility of trading classic jets on E-bay, he was enthusiastic but unsure, he may start with a clearout of his spares inventory….
TT,
Using the link from the Large Model association’s website, I have found the URL for the film:
The Drop
It was screened at Cannes in May, and that is the latest news…..
You ain’t wrong there! One of the earlier suggestions for Clive was to build the replica with American V-8s, which had a proven reduction gear, but he wanted authenticity rather than practicality I suppose.
What is the Authenticity of a Jaguar V12 in a Spitfire?!
Or was it that he wanted a larger number of Cylinders, and to keep it British?
Woss one of them?
I was once in the back seat of a Hawk flying low-level up a Welsh valley, and we passed 2 Jaguars going the other way! It went very quiet in the cockpit after that….
I bet his flying suit was checked back into Safety Flight for ‘Maintenance’!
I was in the back of a Jetstream returning from Newcastle to Finningley (first Land-away as a Loadie), and we came back low-level over the dales, which was an eye-openner, and then we crossed the Humber parallel & level to the Humber Bridge….and then dropped a little, so we could no longer see the cars on it……
I am not too enamoured with the Seller’s rating of 7, all from sellers, I’d like to see a bit more provenance before I bid a 100th of that money!
