    Good one Zamfire!
I must admit flying into an Airshow is something I want to do once I re-certify

I’ll have to check to see if my Dad flew ‘RB, he flew Austers at Sywell during the ’60s

Even with modern CNC machines there are still a lot of castings, jigs, tooling, bespoke wiring looms, etc, etc. and all have to be built to the Aviation standards of each state that you are selling into.
There also has to be the crashworthiness and fire retardency, as well as the operational procedures, such as evacuation time, the doors to be able to be operated by the smallest/weakest cabin crew. Watch the documentary on the 777, one of their biggest headaches were the doors, just to sort out the systems interferences, pressurisation and opening mechanisms took a huge team weeks to sort out!

Junior Sergeants, Aircrew Sergeants – universally known to everyone at Finningley as Plastic Sergeants 😀 😀 😀

    Brian

haha! Yes but everyone was in awe of us as we ran through camp everyday with our pine-poles, gym benches, or sand-filled 5Gal drums during training!

If it was that easy all the blunties would have applied:p

The only time I met real hostility was at Halton where they didn’t have incumbent SNCO Aircrew, they did not like us in the Mess.

Everywhere else there was the usual banter, with the exception of the occasional old hairy in the corner of the bar who took exception to the Air-cadet to Sergeant in 13 weeks promotion time-line

Unfortunately it only takes one visit to the crewman Leader’s office to then drop from Sergeant to Airman 🙁 😡 (see signature below…)

And yes he did have a shiny silver axe sat on his desk as I walked in….

    1. Arrival day at Binbrook ’87, the Tonka F3, following a joint flyby with an 11sqn F6, tries to follow it into a vertical climb, wheezes rather asthmatically!

2.Finningley ’88, Junior Sergeants were given a car park each and a selection of walking cones from Swinderby basic training. They treated me like a god despite the fact that I was there myself only 3 months previously….never had so many people eager to please me! Hard work getting the cars in, even harder getting them all out at the same time!
Downside to the day was I was caught with 2 young ladies staying in my house (one was the daughter of a Lightning Pilot…she was the spitting image of Kylie;) ), the Aircrew Sergeants shared 3 to a MQ house on camp. Added to my downfall….:(

Interesting replay, routed around Luton twice on Sunday, we called in for Radar advisory and they were very helpful around Henlow where ATC Gliders suddenly filled the sky

A large part of the discussion on Sunday centred around which bits of their aircraft didn’t work and how much it was going to cost to fix them….makes club hire seem somewhat less stressful!
The Colt at Fowlmere was complete save the cowling.

I must admit to liking the atmosphere/setup at Fowlmere, more a Gentleman’s Ariel Carriage Touring Club, than a flying club. The Fleet starts at Piper Archers and goes upwards and the strip is lovingly maintained, it felt almost as smooth as Conington’s lumpy tarmac/concrete:D

Saw the Dash 7 when I flew into Fowlmere, wondered what it was doing there, thanks!

Griffiths911, Thanks for the Wessex Porn!

Bex, The Uraguyan Air Force fly a couple of HC2s, mainly on forest Fire-fighting. Tim Manna (Kennet) looked into restoring one, but the supply of Gnomes has all but dried up after the Dutch propensity for strapping 4 on a Tractor and pulling large concrete blocks through mud in some strange/mad sport:eek:

Yes I understood it had been having some work, hence the question, there is a Piper maintenance org based at Fowlmere with a very nice Red Colt/Tripacer in there (amongst some verrry nice Mooneys, Senecas, Seminoles, etc), but I couldn’t remember Moggy’s reg. This was a 4 seater anyway.
    Thanks!

No, I don’t think so, I think it was something like ARHR or similar

She certainly kept us entertained at Weald last weekend – all that to-ind fro-ing around. It was like watching a tennis match.

    😮 “More!”:)

    New Balls Please!:D
