I understood that the 190ties were banned in the UK, and a 262, well maybe in 2004 when the German’s got one. Bw Roger
Is there some sort of Anti FW 190 alliance ongoing on this board?
Everytime we hear the mention of ‘those FW190’s’ there seems to be much glee that there is some sort of blanket ban on them ever appearing in the skies over the UK?
Prior to posting such ‘I thought’ remarks, a moments reflection upon the livelihoods of those involved over the past decade or so, in providing us with such a fantastic project would be in order. Perhaps the ill thought remarks could be rephrased into a question such as “I wonder how ‘those’ FW190’s are getting along with their certification and proving flights?”
Remember please that it is a commercial operation and this is a very widely ready forum by many in the industry. It doesn’t take a ‘thought’ to be repeated too many times before it becomes ‘fact’ in the minds of the masses and then goes on to grow the wrong arms and the wrong legs in the minds of the media.
Last time I saw one it was in the air, flying very nicely and made by Germans too, nice ones. VorSprung Deutch Teknik as they say etc.
A little bit of consideration please……
I am surprised that none of you have noticed the ‘babe’ clearly visible in the left hand seat through the open cockpit slide.
Does anyone have a (Centaurus Engine) ring grip/spade grip that I could get to install in the Sea Fury? When the plane was restored it was fitted with an American (Ugly poppet valve engine) P-51 style grip, but I would like to return to something more original. (A five bladed prop would also be handy)Doesn’t have to specifically be the one used in a Sea Fury, a Harvard grip would also work. I’ve looked around here in the US, but with no luck. The new instrument panel and radios will be installed in the next few weeks and now would be an ideal time to make a change. I am willing to purchase, or we could talk about a ride in Hawker’s finest.
How about it Daz? Do you have one in you box of Spitfire parts?
Steve
We know where your really coming from Steve…. 😉
Other than the 2 at Yeovilton does anyone know if any radomes exist for the Skyraider AEW1, the reason I ask is that someone is attempting to put an ex FAA/Swedish Skyraider back to AEW fit but do not have a radome for it. One thought is that a Gannet or Shackleton one would also fit once the correct attatchment points have been changed. I wonder if any survived as fish ponds after they were removed from the FAA aircraft at SAL before going to Sweden, ok I know its a stupid idea, but stranger things have happened.
Its funny you should ask that question because when reading the recent data file on the Skyraider AEW in a recent Hairoplane monthly magazine it mentioned that the radar and radome for the new Gannet AEW’s were supplied by the outgoing Skyraiders. If indeed true that may mean that these radomes have had quite an interesting carreer in themselves having been attached to three classic planes.
Anyone fill in the gaps please?
Thanks for that, I do also have the Halifax & Wellington book as well, though I shall ask John Stevens as well thanks Moggy.
I’m sure there must be other people out there with stuff in their personal albums too?
Bump!
