Not a bad idea Royzee617 but does the owner or a museum have the cash to make an idea like this work ?

I would love to help out with a charity like this but where do you start, firstly whats needed is to decided exactly what role a charity like this would take.

Would it simply provide funds for a rebuild and display by a museum (Voluntary group) ?

Would the charity buy rare airframes and rebuild and display the planes themselves ?

Would it be just static rebuilds or would they provide cash to help keep rare aircraft in the sky (IE help with insurance, provide funds to allow a plane to fly without being covered in adverts) ?

Where would the money come from, who would get the final say over when this charity got involved in a project and to what extent ?

unwilling to sell but could be persuaded if he could be sure the buyer would not do exactly what happened with the Spitfire and immediately sell on for a huge mark up

Would it be possible to draw up a contract that would enable the current owners to get a share of the cash if it was brought and then sold for a lot more money ?

One has to ask however would anyone really be able to sell on this Swift for anymore than they might pay for it given its current condtion.

That’s a nice looking Canberra Atlantic1, how are you getting on with the B2 and T4 ?

There should be compulsory purchase orders for this sort of thing. If it was an animal, the RSPCA would be entitled to take it away.

Yes that’s all well and good but where exactly would the money come from and who would be responsible for a rebuild. I cannot see the MOD taking any interest in this and I doubt the Lottery would give any cash.

What’s needed to help with long-term preservation is a national charity that could raise funds to buy rare aircraft when they became available, and provide further funds for rebuild and display indoors, or in the case of better conditioned aircraft airshow displays.

Getting back to the Swift can anyone who knows more about this stuff say just how much longer it can be expected to last, before simply falling apart ?

Thanks for corrceting my bad spelling Papa Lima 🙂

David there is a J29 at the Midland Air Museum, however the reason I said J32 is that as far as I know there is not a J32 in a Uk museum.

Looking foward to seeing this at Newark, all they need to do now is get hold of a J32 Larsen to make a nice little Swedish Jets collection.

Woodford would be nice, then when it rains like it always did at Woodford we could all hide under XM603.

I think Waddo or Brunty however both have a fair chance of being the location for the first display.

What would be nice is to see if flying over Southend or Wellsbourne at some stage with
    XL426 or XM655 taxing below.

Ok here’s an idea, turn Coltishall into a massive air museum, keep the runways (cheaper to fly planes in than cut them up to get them in).

Display them in the hangers (thus saving the hangers) then in a 100 or whatever years move the musesum elsewhere and you have a nice preserved 20th century (WW2) airbase.

Yeah ok maybe not but its gotta be better than filling it with ****y house’s.

East Midlands have an ex Saudi Lightning, this photo was taken in Summer 2004.

It is however painted up as an ex RAF example, but there was talk of a repaint in Saudi colors a while back.

Newark, need to get the S1 Bucc, and the Lightning T5 inside asap, however I think that both these and the T33 were planned to go in the new hanger.

Damien, did you take any photo’s at Newark and if so would you be kind enough to post them please ?

Yeah there is a big collection down at Midland air museum, I went myself in August 2004, but really need to get back there to see the stuff that has arrived since that date.
