No full Nimrod AEW survives.
XH558 wont be repainted – due to the costs involved.
Excuse my ignorance but what is DACT ?
Also if the Sea Vixen was to work in some-kind of training role with the Typhoons on a regular basis would it need to be operated as a military aircraft in the same way HHA’s Hunter’s are or could it do the work as a civilian aircraft ?
The Sea Vixen is being kept live and has been fast taxied in the last couple of months.
A rumor was doing the rounds that it would fly again in 2008 and would be operating as a training aid alongside RAF Typhoons. In fact it was used for this purpose for a couple of weeks late in 2006 – in fact it won several mock dogfights against the Typhoons lol 🙂
It just gets worse 🙁 what the hell is going on in this country.
Words totaly fail me 🙁
Im looking foward to seeing XH558 ,and am hoping XX885 will make it back in to the air in time for the 2008 season.
The police were called, but three hours later had not shown up
There would have been a time when the police would have been round within 5mins and would have taken these idiots away and read em the riot act – now they would rather give em counclin and a cup of tea – hence why people treat the police as such a joke.
Its high time police tried to prevent crime and deal with the people who cause it not spend time messing around with the soft options they dont work.
Sorry rant over 🙁
This type of crime is a total and utter disgrace, anyone who treats a memorial to people who gave there lives for this country in such a way should be kicked out of the country immediately.
andrewman,
Crew currency flights and ‘Anti Det’ running will still be an issue for 558, and therefore regular flights will still be taking place.
Flipflopman
Thanks for that info Flipflopman – how often will XH558 be flying outside of the airshow season ?
Also sorry for my ingonrance but what is an F700 and why is it so important ?
As for ‘Mothballing’ her after flight testing, doubtful this far down the line, she was always destined to be placed in storage during the off season but that will never mean she will be completely idle as work on the airframe will be ongoing to ensure the plane is safe and ready to operate when ever required.
I was under the impression that XH558 would make a once a month crew training flight in the winter months is this not now the case ?
Reminds me of a story I was told a few years back, a DH Venom was being started up using the catargie start (ie lots of black smoke). Some American guys were close to said aircraft and as soon as the black smoke came out ran off and came back with fire fighting gear.
They were somewhat shocked to find the Venom taxing to the runway, lol
as they were convinced it had burst into flames when starting up 🙂
Even better idea fly XH558 to Wellsbourne and have XH558 and XM655 run up together 🙂
Split the money 50-50 for the 2 Vulcans and you would get loads of people turn up 🙂
It would be nice if they could get XH558 into Woodford while XM603 is still around id pay to see them both together, maybe get the BBMF Lancaster there for a nice photo opp.
If there going to refit the nose can we asume that its gonna be staying in one peace for a few more months yet ?
Also whats this about a failed engine run when did that happan ?
I know they did a full EGR on Xm603 in August 2002 was this the last time it was run ?
That’s an intresting point David but id have to say that it would be wrong when you consider all the work done (by volantiers) and the money donated by the public over the last 15 or so years to say the only condtion for building a hanger was that the Vulcan must become static.
As most people on here know ground running aircraft will last a good deal longer outdoors than a static aircraft kept outside, so its fair to XL426 has a somewhat safe future.
One would also have to wonder why when there are about 15 static Vulcans that could do with a hanger anyone would wish to build a hanger for a ground runner on the condtion it was no-longer ground run.
