Here’s some pics from last week. WL747 and WL757 parked amongst various bits of airport junk at the side of the new departures building at Paphos Airport.

I guess the aircraft with “47” on the tail is WL747. As you can see, they both appear to be largely intact but rather weathered. Therey are parked about 250 metres from the sea so I guess there will be a fair bit of corrosion by now.

Anyone recognise the aircraft parked with the Shackletons?

These are the best pictures I could grab through the fence; the far side of Paphos is military so I was on the three-line whip from wife and small person.

    Auster G-AJAC

Back again folks, dirty brown from Cyprus…is this the wrong forum to rant about the WRC Rally?

Oh, well. Back to Dad’s old pics then… The next few are not very good quality often blurry and needing a lot of enlargement of the aircraft. Never-the-less…

    Auster G-AJAC

Caption “Autocrat Brig RL Hutchins” and “Hurn 12/03/52”. The second caption is probably a first seen date; the airfield looks more like Hamble than Hurn.

UK civil register has this aircraft as Auster J/1N, c/n 2236, built in 1946. Its CoA expired in 1979, but the aircraft was evidently re-registered in 1992 before being de-registered in 1999. The owners were two private individuals near Exeter.

There are two photos of this aircraft listed at http://www.transportphotos.com/ac_lists/auster.doc, one of which dates from 1980. Five pictures are listed in the AJ Jackson Collection.

Does anyone know the fate of this aircraft?

    Anson PH769

Here’s the last one for a couple of weeks.

Caption, rather helpfully, is “Anson”. Photo is either at Hurn or possibly Middle Wallop in around 1952. The aircraft was used to provide joy-rides for local ATC units.

The only reference I can find to this aircraft is at http://pascal.brugier.free.fr/registre/txt/g-mil_pa.txt which gives it as an Avro 652A Anson C. XII with the serial PH679(G).

Anyone have anything more on the aircraft?

    DH89A Rapide G-ALGC and G-AJMY

Caption “Dragon Rapide LGC beside JMY” Presumed at Hurn 1952.

    G-ALGC

The UK civil register shows this as a DH89A Rapide by Brush Coachworks Ltd, c/n 6906 built in 1945 with CoA expiring in 1966. According to http://pascal.brugier.free.fr/registre/txt/yi-aaa.txt, it was variously NR842(G), and YI-ABF (Iraq).

It is pictured at http://cloudancer100.tripod.com/id13.htm whilst in Luton Airways colours in 1959 (worth a look for other Rapides and also a pic of Ambassador G-ALZT with BEA). The Iraqi owner is presumed here as Iraqi Petroleum. Replaced by Doves (cf. G-AKSV). Also indicates the aircraft was “cancelled” 28th February 1973; cf CoA expiry, however.

CNAPG (no working link) shows much of the same info but suggests the aircraft may have been YI-ABT in Iraq. http://www.dehavilland.ukf.net/_DH%20full%20prodn%20list.txt mentions much the same info and “Dbr Biggin Hill 9th March 1964” (what this mean?). She was reported at the Biggin Hill Air Fair 9th and 10th May 1964

Two pics in Transport Photos list; one as with Lancashire Aircraft Corporation in Croydon (http://www.transportphotos.com/Air/britciv/g-ai_l.html). In the AJ Jackson collection there are photos of the aircraft with AFC, TI Group, Melba Airways and Scenic Flights (http://www.ajjcollection.co.uk/d8.htm).

At http://members.tripod.com/~ticket2write/nft0001.html there is the story by Captain L “Harry” Harris the aircraft’s trip from Biggin Hill to Cape Town in December 1963. Co-owner given as a Brian Neeley. Notes a crash in spring 1964 at Biggin Hill (a “Dbr”?) and her demise as a source of spares.

One of the more promiscuous aircraft in this thread.

    G-AJMY

Noted with the UK civil register as a DH89A Rapide c/n 6511, built 1940 by British Electrical Engineering Co Ltd. CoA expired October 1953.

According to http://www.dehavilland.ukf.net/_DH%20full%20prodn%20list.txt she was RAF X7338, then G-AJMY before becoming CR-GAK (Portugal). CNAPG (no link) has the aircraft registered as G-AJMY on 13th June 1947 and de-registered 21st August 1952. The owner from October 1952 was said to be TAGP; the aircraft was withdrawn in 1962.

    Bit thin compared to G-ALGC!

    Dove 1B G-AKSV

Caption “Dove 1 Bournemouth 1st April 1952”; not original. The UK civil register has this aircraft as a DH104 DOVE 1B built in 1948 with the c/n 04161. It’s UK CoA expired in 1967.

According to a list published by CNAPG (no valid link, however), this aircraft was retained by De Havilland’s (becoming BAC (Operating) Ltd) before being registered as “VI-AEH”; should read YI-AEH, probably for Iraq Petroleum Corporation repacling their fleet of DH89A Rapides. Anybody have any info on IPC’s operations?

Photos exist with Transport Photos (http://www.transportphotos.com/Air/britciv/g-ai_l.html, Sywell 30th May 1966) and in the AJ Jackson Collection (http://www.ajjcollection.co.uk/d10.htm).

    Harvard MkIIB KF263

No caption but presumably at Hurn, 1952.

The only mention I have of this aircraft is at http://www.uswarplanes.net/at6.htm, which says that it was c/n 14A-1963 made as Harvard MkIIB by Noorduyn Aviation Ltd., Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Do some people have enabled custom status titles a la http://forum.airforces.info/faq.php?faq=vb_user_maintain#faq_vb_custom_status?

I’ve gone from being a “member” to a “registered user” both of which may have unfortunate undertones. At least I’m not “Rank…”.

Getting it back on topic – maybe.
Anybody know when Roger Waters father was killed? I heard he was on bombers and got shot down; it has affected the way he feels about life, if nothing else… – Nermal

I think that was Mike Harding’s dad – “Bomber’s Moon” etc. Slightly different genre, perhaps.

Ah, for $20 million and a bit of time; what a collection… Two shackletons, the B25 from the Cat thread, maybe a vampire and a meteor…
