Are they still on the RAF’s charge?
I’m there on Wednesday ( 😀 ). I’ll look out for them. Pics if Minolta give me my camera back 🙁
I may be mistaken. I never saw “The Wall” live, only a pastiche in a Roger Walters concert in 1984.
Maybe I was thinking of Motorhead; Lemmy seems the kind of guy to have a fake Heinkel crashing on to the stage.
I thought it was a Heinkel 111?
Sadly I doubt I’d be allowed to spend $200k on anything that doesn’t involve bricks and mortar… unless you guys know a cast iron scheme making lots of millions and staying the right side of HM Government (sic)?
What sort of money is needed to buy something like that, move it and store it in reasonable conditions?
Excuse my ignorance, but what location is this?
Auster G-AKXR
I heard from Lars Gustavsson of the Auster Aircraft Owners of Sweden (http://www.fly.to/auster) last night about the aircraft in this post http://forum.airforces.info/showpost.php?p=339337&postcount=31.
He has checked with the Swedish CAA and found that the aircraft was sold by the NSKF to a private pilot in 1967. Shortly afterwards, the aircraft crashed in Northern Sweden killing the pilot and two passengers.
I wonder if it was Wessex HU5 XT469 that I saw in the scrap yard? It was yellow, very tatty and already part broken up.
I talked to a chap at the weekend whose’s responsible for certain aspects of RAF buildings and property. He was of the opinion that the RAF will move to the combined Army & Navy stores (I did the joke about House of Fraser but apparently they’ve heard it). Stafford will be used for civilians (MoD, Staffs Police and University possible).
Looks like upgrades went less well in the past: http://forum.airforces.info/showpost.php?p=11380&postcount=1
What’s on the gate there these days? When I was there on a cadet camp in 1980, they had a rather nice Javelin (which I believe was later scrapped 🙁 ) and a Bloodhound.
I must go and look  but I seem to remember its a Harrier. It was mentioned in a post not long ago but it doesn’t show on a search.
My office window looks out over a couple of Stafford’s finest scrapmen (one of whom had a Wessex a few months back) so I’ll keep my eyes open…
Excellent site.
I’ve a few pics to put up in the ‘1952’ thread (in due course)
Mine works! Now to find a decent avatar…
