Buy or lose deal, Israel tells India

Buy or lose deal, Israel tells India

25 June 2004: Israeli companies led by the Israeli Aircraft Industry have asked the Indian defence ministry to finalise fast-track purchase of twenty-one out of sixty-two military items by end-August, failing which they could be sold to other countries that have placed orders like Ukraine, South Africa, Australia, Mexico, and Germany.

The Indian Army needs sixteen out of the twenty-one items desperately, including surveillance and secure communication systems, night-vision goggles, and terrain mappers, in view of the infiltration threat in Jammu and Kashmir after the snows melt, the Air Force wants precision-guided munitions expressly, while the navy seeks equipment for anti-submarine warfare and deep-sea surveillance.

As defence minister, Jaswant Singh obtained export consent for these equipment from Israel’s highest leadership, and this may be withdrawn if India delays purchase beyond August, and all the agreed sale-and-procurement mechanisms for the twenty-one items would be scrapped simultaneously.

With the Israeli leadership, Jaswant had negotiated fast-track procurement of the twenty-one items, and under the agreement, a small contingent of the Indian armed forces would train with them in Israel, and Israel would provide on-field technology support and after-sales support in India.

Israel has told the defence ministry that it has built up inventories of the twenty-one items for the Indian sale which has not happened, and that it would be forced to sell to other countries who have placed orders, and if India were to need the equipment afterwards, there would be a waiting period of two years.

Since February, there has been no movement on the Israeli deal because of electioneering, and with a change of government, perceptions have changed about military relations with Israel, first against and then pro when the Indian Army put up urgent need for the twenty-one items, and officials said defence minister Pranab Mukherjee is under pressure to take a decision quickly

Well at least this person got punished for his actions.

We have a nation in our neighbourhood that promotes Generals who run away from battlefield by dislodging nurses πŸ˜€

Then again, some nations have laws and some…

We have a nation in our neighbourhood that fools its public by making “home made” movies of its bravery on the battlefield, because they are unable to do that in a real battle scenario.

Why would someone make fake footage of killings?

As for “Generals who run away from battlefield by dislodging nurses”….any credible source to prove that?

I provided u info about ur BOLLYWOOD army through ur own sources πŸ™‚

    Lets keep this formal.

    Siachen encounters fake, admits officer
    By: PTI
    May 29, 2004
    ——————————————————————————–
Jodhpur: Commanding Officer of Gorkha battalion Col K D Singh today conceded before a military court here that the encounters in Siachen glacier region last year claimed by the then Commanding Officer on LoC Maj Surinder Singh were “fake”.

Two video cassettes submitted by Maj Singh along with the situation reports in August last year were “stage-managed”, Col Singh said continuing his deposition for the third consecutive day in the first ever army open trial, before the court headed by Brig Philip Campose.

“In the first instance, I found nothing wrong in the video cassettes but after closely observing the video clips I doubted authenticity of the incidents shown in them and sought clarification from Maj Singh on phone,” he said.

“Not only Maj Singh insisted that the said encounters were real but also others involved in the ‘fake encounter’ supported him initially,” Col Singh said.

However, rifleman Shyam Bahadur Thapa later spilled the beans by conceding that he had created the fake bunker for the video shoot, he said.

This was also conceded later by others involved in the incidents saying they had been made to keep a vow in the name of god that they would not reveal the ‘fake operation”, Col Singh said.

The Colonel said he also found that the video camera used in the shoot of fake encounter could not zoom into the target 800 feet away as claimed by Maj Singh.

He said the behaviour of Maj Singh with his subordinates was also not good as he is a “foul-mouthed” officer.

The military court is recording summary of evidence before start of court martial proceedings against officials indicted by a court of inquiry.

The court of inquiry had recommended disciplinary action against Maj Singh for making exaggerated claims and found Col K D Singh and Maj Rohit Lamba guilty of administrative lapses.

The recording of summary evidence in the military court was earlier schedueld to be held in Chandigarh but the venue was shifted to Jodhpur on a request by Maj Singh.

The military court is holding its proceedings in open for the first time allowing media persons to watch it. However, media persons are not allowed to take any notes inside the court room.

Zzzzzzzzz……you have gnawed and bitten at kashmir for 58 yrs with
nothing to show for it other than a army of freelance Jihadis who are plying their trade in your premier city Karachi now πŸ™‚ India doesnt want the 30% of Pak-kashmir back, Pak had made it its life’s mission to get 70% India-Kashmir back.

Pardon me while I get back to sleeping.

if drops of water keep falling on a stone……one day the stone is crushed.

I just wandered into this thread. why the hell are you indians wasting your time here ? look at the picture in 2010 if the Gripen deal is signed and all is done and delivered in next 5 yrs.

    (a) PAF – 40 gripens and 5 Ereyie(say) + 20 FC-1 as the “high end”

    (b) PLAAF – 400 Flankers, AAR, 3-4 AWACS (Nanjing model!) , 50plus J-10

a lot of people in history have died while fixated on the decoy while
ignoring the cavalry ‘turning their flanks below the ridgeline.

You decide whos the bigger dog, the bigger teeth and the bigger threat
to India. make sure to allocate ur cpu cycles accordingly.

having a bigger & more powerful AF compared to a economy 7 times smaller is EXPECTED. Pls focus on (b) and how to deal with a economy 2x India’s size and defence spending supposedly 3-4x.

At the end of the day………you have to deal KASHMIR with Pakistan. WHo still controls 1/3 of it. Try taking it back.

If not…just shut up and try to defend it atleast πŸ™‚

Here here. Must we have a new thread everytime someone in Pakistan farts? If it’s a *confirmed* aircraft deal, fine. But I’m sick to death of “Pakistan may end up getting new spanners for its Mirages” or some such nonsense.

Well, even if all rumours should become truth, there’s no need to boast and claim dominance.
The Gripen is an excellent home defence asset, but not much more. It clearly has its limitations in range and weapon load. This could be a good signal saying: “We’re not really in a position to attack you, but don’t mess with us, we’re prepared.”
This could actually contribute to a more peaceful neighbourhood.

    I second that.

Sale of gripen to PAK will certainly end India’s dominance.

Well i hope this time its true. We’ve been hearing this news all year and it always turned out to be false.

lets see. I would love the see our f-16’s upgraded to MLU. Pakistan’s overhauling skills kept our F-16 flying all this while . We have good experience with the pratt and whitney one.

Guys i am Pakistani. Been following our military aviation for quite sometime.

Let us be realistic. PAK AIR FORCE is still evialuating aircrafts which it will purhase not less than 3 years from now.

PAF will NOT ……………i repeat ……………PAF will NOT place orders for any aircraft (other than the jF-17 ) untill it has its hands on the JF-17 in a substantial amount.

    JF-17 is our main priority.

    PAF is stil evaluating.

Oh yes….and members……please bring down the BHA”RAT” “RAT”**** tone on this fine forum. Please play with monkeys, elephants, swines and cows on that forum. A very gentle advice.
