Terminal 2 was built around 1992 and ive never understood why certain charters like Britannia and Air 2000 moved over but Airtours and Monarch remained in Terminal 1. I thought the plan was to make T1 scheduled and T2 charter back then.

Where did Airtours base in it’s first few years of existence.

I know they based at Manchester, Birmingham, Stansted, Glasgow and Gatwick but where else saw the glory of the MD83’s.

Didn’t Leeds Bradford get the Airtours MD83 popping in on w patterns.

No it’s gone they did some major rebuilding around 18 months ago. The toilets even now have them high speed hand driers, there is a food court up the escalators, they have done some major alterations. The pier where the widebodies normally are is still the same as it’s always been.

Which MD83 was based at Manchester in 1991, i flew MAN-ALC on 31/8/91 and returned 15/9/91, but never knew reg.
Im guessing it may of been G-COES.

Following year i went from BHX-MAH-BHX again on an Airtours MD83 again wish i knew the reg. The flight was 18/7/92 returning 1/8/92.

    Wish i knew the reg’s.

Did an MD83 in 2004 from Teesside to Tenerife with Spanair. Nice aircraft, quite like smartie tubes, very noisy at back, silent at front.

An Airtours L1011 would of been nice. Im still trying to find out the airline i would of flown on in 1990 to Alicante from Manchester.
Does anyone know what airlines would of used back then on the ALC route on a Saturday evening in August.

MD83’s are only A320 size. I think back in 1991 Airtours went for them because they couldn’t get hold of any 737’s.

Best livery i want to see on a plane again is Britannia. Maybe one of the new 787’s could carry it.

Air Europe ordered them for use in the UK, i believe these would of been passed to Airtours, MyTravel then Thomas Cook would of retired them by now.

Why oh why can’t a UK charter airline like Monarch lease one until the 787’s arrive.
