Sad to say but most of the finals shed and the front offices are now gone and the runway is being ripped up and shredded. I have been going over every weekend taking photo’s of the sad demise of the airfield and its buildings.
The flights sheds on the far side where the Nimrods were scrapped are still intact but they are due for demolition as well.
What other airports is it visiting ?
Just been shown a piccy of a 787 at Ringway :eagerness: Pity i am without car and looking after the kids :apologetic:
Give us a clue :eagerness:
Was it a common thing to bury crew in the aircraft the died in ? Was the aircraft beyond repair ?
Very sad and unusual film, thanks for sharing
My better half worked for them at the Manchester hanger in the maitenance library and she enjoyed them as an employer. She still has a few trinkets they gave away such as mugs, badges, pictures ect
What are they doing with the Hercs being chopped at Bruntingthorpe ? Are they saving any big chunks off them ?
I thought she had already been turned into tin cans ! So she lives……sort of !
Wish i had not bothered posting now 🙁
Lets hope we get a proper chance to see her at Woodford with maybe a last chance show before the new owners dig the runway up and we will lose a piece of aviation history and the NW’s last decent airshow ground where the aircraft actually LAND ! Seaside shows are all well and good, but nowhere near a good as seeing stuff take off and land like the rest of the country seems to enjoy 😡
It’s a shame some people did not see her at Woodford,we only found out the night before and even then it was not a confirmed flyby, just rumours via Facebook.
It’s been a long time coming for her to return home and i am glad i saw her there because future plans for the site will make it impossible for such flypasts when it is full of houses !
I hope there is a proper event to celebrate both Woodford and Avro aircraft built there before it is too late and the bulldozers come in a rip that hallowed runway up.
If it’s any consolation, she only did two quiet flypasts,no powered, noisy affairs like she has done at many airshows this year, but at least my four daughters got to see something my Grandad and their Great Grandad was involved with many years ago.
Exactly, I even wondered if I had the date wrong!
At the very least I would think that XH558 would have done a fly through at Woodford, and even Scampton, Coningsby, Cottesmore, and Waddington.
After all, isn’t that one of the reasons it flys, to commemorate the engineering skills that created it, and the service use of the type?
Sadly the only rumble we had over Manchester yesterday was thunder followed by lots of rain !
Its a real shame nothing has been mentioned or any event to celerbrate the first flight.
Is there no planned flights from XH558 for the occasion ?
Happy Birthday Vulcan !!!
