I also did both museums a few years ago and i can say they are brilliant ! The silver tubes are slides out of the airframes, you go down on basically sack bags, there is even one out of the Lufty Lump if you dare !!!
Both my Grandparents worked there during and after the war,my Grandad worked up to the Vulcan era when the company became BAC…real shame 🙁
I remember being moved on a regular basis from Ringways piers when either the El Al or Aer Lingus flights were coming in again well before 9-11.At least we have the viewing park full of nice jems plus an as good replacment to the brickworks near the new runway.
How about a Martinair F28 😀
Nice shot, pity that background is now under a runway 🙁
PA1 and PA2 are still in the finals hangar being stripped. I think there is still some major bits in Hangar 5. A cockpit section is being kept apparently.
It looks like XM603 wil be the last airframe at Woodford – apt somehow.
Which hanger is the finals hanger ? Is that the one where the scrapping is taking place.
I suppose Woodford is next and earlier?
mmitch.
I guess so,Vulcan XM603 is still there at the moment.
And then there were none !
Went to Woodford this morning to see if there was anything left….sadly everything has gone except the scrapping area 😡

I guess thats it
Maybe silly questions but did all of those 3 Nimrods have the AIM-9 sidewinder self defence mod or did that come after the war? and if so did the mod stay on or was it taken off at a later date?
curlyboy
I thought they were fitted for the war.
You can pick out 3 of the tails in this pic, (crown copyright) I see to think that 8 went south in total, something in the back of my brain, could be wrong though!
Just look at all those Victors !!!
Good evening,
I agree. I would like to add one slide scan, this time of a less familiar Russian aircraft. It is Tupolev Tu-124 OK-UEC of CSA, seen at a wet Schiphol on February 21st, 1970. Not the best quality, but I hope of interest all the same.
Kind regards,
Peter
That is very nice ! The Czech Air Force museum has one.
More is good, keep them coming !
Such a big shame that this site should be binned this way without even letting it’s last product go into service,a sad loss and a major blow to all those employee’s 😡
Here’s ZJ516 & 518 taken in August

So will these two unwanted babies fly out to an airbase near you for fire practice or be scrapped at their birthplace ???

I remember seeing the first flight into Manchester from the old brickworks.Strange to think the then modern aircraft is now retiring.
