One of the last times i went round it she was in a shocking state, the cockpit was trashed and if i remember rightly one of the quarter glass’s were missing to let all that nice wet stuff in !
It was a shocking sight to see the Airtours 737 still smoking when i saw it on the tarmac at Ringway, cannot believe it was 25 years ago.
Those shots of Manchester brought back good memories when you could walk along the terraces within feet of the aircraft, shame those days have gone.I think the only time we were shifted was when either the Aer Lingus or El Al flights came in.
Here’s mine from her birthplace…

Quality, brave people to do such a flight and what a shame about the pilot after an epic adventure.
I often wondered why she was never flown on the airshow scene, was it just a get her here and then museum piece or were there plans to fly in the UK ?
Does the Dragon Lump have a bit of Cathay attached on the front ??
When it woke me up all i thought it was AN-22 because it has been over my way before when it did land at Manchester and it has such a distinctive sound…..big Shack !
Pity it did not come here again but i have been in the one preserved at Speyer…….which was nice 😀
Possibly the An-22 that was announced a few days ago?
It sounded like AN-22 but my wife just called me an anorak !!!!!
Absolute quality even though i am biased towards anything Czech ! Was the highest scoring allied ace not a Czech pilot ? I’m sure i was told he was.
As ever,wonderful interesting photo’s.Cheers !
Heres an interesting Dc8-73(cf) visiting Warsaw recently.A British Airways 777 (YMMA) also dropped in,not sure of the reason.
Nice ! Pity those new fangled engines don’t have the smokey “look at me i’m leaving” effect 😀
Skudupnorth I remember been able to walk out over the piers,i was there the day it closed some idiots throwing things at planes!!!
These old pics bring back great memories especially the Jat,Aviogenex,Dan-Air and Britannia 732.I loved it when Manchester used to thunder with these old jets.I will try to scan some of my old prints and get them on here i got some old memories Caledonian 1-11,Cal-air dc-10 etc. Thanks for sharing these mate
Yes they were good days to watch everything landing at the pier ends,i think the rot set in when they fenced off the ends then it was down hill from then on and off to the brickworks (now runway 2 for you youngsters ! )for good take off and landing views.Must get my scanning head on and share stuff !
Adding on to the “is she going to be a regular visitor” whatever happened to the Emery Dc-8’s that were regulars at Manchester ? Were they swallowed up by other operators or were they scrapped 😡
Fantastic shots,do we know if she is going to be a regular visitor or was it a one off ?
Brilliant film ! Did not think it would be up my street but i never left the chair throughout.
