It would be good to see the old girl fly this year,i love Vulcans and they are in my families history as both my Grandparents worked for Avro during the war and when the Vulcan was being built.I would also like to show my children something i took for granted in the 70’s and 80’s at airshows when we could see multiple Vulcan displays at one show (who remembers the four ship scramble at Finningley in the early 80’s ? )
Here’s hoping for 2008 being the year she is seen in the air again !

I put the Vulcan up front against the F.22 like i put Group B rally cars up front against the nice techno WRC rally cars of today.Vulcan and Group B = noise and spectical ! F.22 and WRC = doing what it says on the tin…..but boring to watch !!!!!

    Provosts? Balliols certainly.

    Mark

I was young ! I’m sure they were silver with yellow training bands dumped in the dye ponds by the side of the old mill. How many Balliols were there ??

Doh ! It was a Swift then and not a Scimiter ! There was loads of other stuff like props, engine nacelles with under-carriage still attached.I’m sure there were Provost fusalages dumped in the old mill too, plus Queen Mary transporter trailers in and around the site.Pity we did not realise how important the site was !

I used to live in Droylsden, just a bit further up Clayton Vale. I remember that scrapyard well.

All gone now, of course. 🙁

We were not far from Priory mill (now a housing estate) and had the challenge of crossing those hills and the Medlock river to get to the dump.Loved playing in the Firefly’s and of course the world record breaking Scimiter.Do you remember the Shack noses further up in the yard,we never went near them because of the guard dog !

I think your forecast, Deano, should differentiate between light and heavy precipitation.

    Monday – Heavy Rain
    Tuesday – Heavy Rain
    Wednesday – Heavy Rain
    Thursday – Heavy Rain
    Friday – Really Heavy Rain
Saturday – Heavy Rain (but not as heavy as Friday)
    Sunday – Heavy Rain

    😀

Oh, and nice shots Lance, considering the rain.

Ermmmm, you forgot the wind factor…….lots of it with all the rain !

While these shots were indeed taken using a Digital camera, it is just as easy to use film as long as you can scan your negs/slides accurately. By accurately I mean exposure and colour rather than position!

Flatbed scanners won’t cope very well, but film scanners, such as the Minolta DiMage perform admirably!

Just as with Digital, the key to this type of “stitched” shot with film is that everything, from the taking of the shot through to the scanning of the film, must be done totally manually to ensure consistent exposure and colour so that the shots can be stitched without too much editing.

I used to use an old Nikon F3, both with neg and slide, for my stitched panoramas before I went digital!

Thanks again for the info,i guess a film scanner would be a nice cheap option to replacing my old trusty Nikons 😀

Digital does speed things up a bit though!

    Billy

Thanks again for the info, absolute quaility ! i have a flatbed scanner which as you say is a bit hit and miss on image quaility so i guess film only scanner might be the way forward for my old crusty Nikons !

They are done in the digital domain.

You should still be able to use your stills camera, but the quality might suffer as you would have to scan the prints or slides into your computer.

Thats what i thought about quaility issues,i love film but it does not transfer too well through a scanner if it’s a little too old.Maybe Santa will bring me a new DSLR next year :p
