Bring back the “OK” on the tail ! or is that my age showing 😮 It’s not too bad but i think they should have used the Czech flag in the design.
Air France jobby springs to mind…but it was a while ago !
A sad day for aviation and motorsport fans…..both great losses.
I’ve only started going back over since i heard about 603’s fate (i was there in 82 when she landed).I used to cycle from Timperley every weekend especially when the Falklands war was on to see the converted Vulcan K.2’s and Nimrods being readied for the war and also for one of the best Northern airshows. The place is far quieter now since the end of the AEW and ATP’s of which you can see stored over by the hangers with Bae 146’s.Like i say you were lucky to see an MR.4 being shuffled around on a weekend.
Thats a new MR.4 Nimrod you lucky so and so ! You are right in not being allowed to take photo’s because there is a big sign saying so further up near the parking spot on that road, but no-one pays attention to it ! I have loads of pictures of the Nimrod AEW’s when they were hot stuff…even hotter when they melted them down to ingots !
Good to see the nose back near 603,i wonder what the plans are now for her, seams a lot of trouble to re-fit a part on a supposed condemned airframe ?????
XM603 minus her radome
603 today at Woodford.Only had digital compact so zoom not so clever but you get the idea of how she looks 🙁 🙁

Stansted 1985
A few more shots from my old negative collection of the airliner scrapyard at Stansted plus a few old jems of the non scrapped variety.Sorry about the quaility,a mix of old age and bad storage have not helped.

The Intercontinental DC-8 was i think the one that hit the Flying Tigers DC-8 a few years earlier damaging it’s tail with it’s wing.I have a photo of it when it diverted to Manchester with slightly tattered wing feathers !
Some more from my dead aircraft photo colection.
Yet another shot from Woodford.
Next from another BAe site, this time Samlesbury’s Canberra store just before they were removed.

A few more of Scampton’s tailless Vulcan

Enjoy
My first show was Woodford 1976,we went in a mates dads purple Hillman Imp.I still have the programme which i must dig out to see what was showing.
Quality ! A lot has changed since i was there in 2003,they have cut the grass around the helicopters and it looks like they have allowed photo’s of the airfield storage area…i got told by a bloke in uniform with a big gun NO !
Good to see the Tu-104 restored, only saw that once when they opened a gate on the airfield and it looked a bit rough.
Acording to my many W&R it was a Comet 4 which ended up at warton for Nimrod 2000 development.
I wonder if it’s worth a delve through Wrecks & Relics for the i.d’s of the Nimrod/Comet’s at Woodford ? I’ve just found a load of slides and negs i took of the AEW Nimrods when the were parked up ready for pending “service” !
it departed Mildenhall at 18.15 this evening, bound for ?
al.
That solves the problem of wanting to see it then !
Would love to go over and see that but with child number 3 only days away the drive from Mildenhall back to Manchester could be a tad tight !!
The Prague Technical Museum is also an awesome place with loads of aircraft hanging from the ceiling (not as many as Kbely) plus if you like cars, trains ect then it is worth a visit. Are you driving whilst you are there ? On the outskirts of Mlada Boleslav about 60km from Prague there is an IL-18 on the motorway which used to serve food….basically a motorway services with a difference but i think it has closed now which is a pity as we used to have a brilliant meal while sitting in airliner seating !
