The A380 will make its first appearance of the day (Sat 12th) at the Festival of Speed, Goodwood at 12.15pm
It will make an apperance at RAIT at 12.40pm
Manchester Airport, approach and go-around at 1.20pm
Approach and go-around at Liverpool John Lennon Airport 1.25pm
Display at Wirral Show 1.30pm
Then its onto Farnborough.
Anyone got any idea which A380 will be used?
Last time I was in WAW I used a 134-400mm lens. The runway passes in front of the terminal building so it is possible to get some take off shots. The apron entry points are 200-300mm away too.
Some aircraft park remotely so the longer focal length is needed then too but some of the legacy carriers and the LOT 767s park on airbridges virtually below the viewing deck so 200mm is too big then!
I found the sun to be favourable in the morning and late evening.
There are some very good spotting places along the perimeters too. Depends on the wind direction.
When I visited MLA earlier in April the haze was caused by desert sand being blown into the atmosphere – africa isn’t that very far away.
I did much the same as you two lads but went out easyjet – the almost new 321 G-TTOG, great bacon roll, and back to Luton on Ryanair arriving just before midnight.
How did you get from the terminal to the spotters platform and back again?
This is a fuel charge no matter what spin MOL puts on it. Having said in the past they would “never ever” impose fuel surcharges he would ahve a lot of egg on face if he now came out and admitted that.
Where were the photos taken?
Digital cameras, like some film cameras, ar battery opeated and they fall foul of the turn off the battery equipment mantra. Only Ryanair has told me off for pointing my camera out the wndow during taxi.
Not all the Flybe fleet have ecolabels! G-ECOB which I saw at Luton yesterday didn’t have one – or had it slipped off in all the rain on the IOM?
Got to Brum just after the Air India landed and missed the photo op.
I’ve been to LIG and there’s a nasty drop at the end of the runway at both ends.
I note that the airline, which is not noted for helping its passengers out when things go awry, were quick to send out a replacement aircraft to pick up the back load. Engineers were also on this plane. I wonder who got there first – the negineers or the French feds?
Twas a good idea, i’d made my plans to attend.
Will Key try again next year? Reduce the costs a bit, choose a better weekend?
Winter Saturdays are very busy at SZG and in order to free up apron space the general aviation ramp is used for airliners up to BAe146 sized. Its not unusual to see Dash8, CRJs and the Fokker 70s of Austrian Arrows parked up there along with Malmo RJs, Cimber ATRs and Flybe Q400s.
When I was at SZG last week there was nothing there except a Niki A320 and a Lauda 737.
Saw the CatoAir last June when I was there during the show. Has it ever moved?
I paid a fiver for a hot breakfast on a GB Airways flight last year – and another fiver to have a hot “meal” on the flight back. It was good for an airline meal but woz I robbed?
Anyone got dates when RYR flights start and what the frequencies are. From a quick look they don’t look like they are daily or at times that are convenient to the buisiness or leisure traveller.
So is this a cursory dip into the market like LPL-INV and ABZ were last spring and summer and which will be removed at the end of the summer? Or are they just slot sitters so that RYR can build their own market slot to East Europe destinations?
I’m told the 12th will be a very good day – could be better than last year’s equivalent Satd’y which saw the LOWA 707 make an appearance on an ambulance flight. All we need now is the same sort of weather – glorious sunshine last year but no snow, previous year was snow, snow and more snow with one day of sunshine. See you on the mound!
The 5th is too close to the 6th for it to be the “biggie” – that would be like us flyign somwewhere on Christmas Eve and our Russian friends like to settle into their accomodation with a few litres of vodka first. The 12th is certainly a good day to see the departures.
Nothing definate on what might be seen this time round but its more than likely there will be more Western equipmwent in evidence and a further reduction in Soviet metal. Pulkovo/Rossiya is flying LED-SZG with A319s this winter. In years gone by that was a cert for a smoky 154M.
