Correct T.O.
These Hunters were operating at Valley during my time there, although I never worked on them, I was given the task of clearing 2 crashed ( Mid air collision over Valley) Hunters from out of 14 hangar to the scrap compound once the unit inquiry had finished with them.

Never seen this thread before, but a good read and nice conclusion. At that time i was a serving member of RAF and stationed at Valley, Anglesey, which has always been (And I think still is ) a Master Diversion Airfield. Arriving to work one morning to see Civil Airliners strewn (Parked) all over the Pans and Peri Track on Seaward side of Airfield. Station Flight were going frantic trying to unload passengers with “Giraffes” and herd em into an assembly area where they were bussed off to Holyhead Railway Station. Because of fog still around, no Valley Aircraft were flying, so the station was very busy copiing with it all. Some of the planes were there for a day or more before they departed.
Never seen Valley that busy with Diversions since.

Hi Melvyn,
That “Lump” looks WW2 ,british to me and also looks like part of an integral fuel tank. You can see 3 fuel connections, 1) the large reinforced pipe attachment ring. 2) what looks like a “Stack ” or vent pipe connection and 3) poss another connector that the mans hands are covering in the one pic. (The pics can be seen if you click away and get into photo Bucket. ) My knowledge of Beaufighters is less than yours, but plenty of folks in here will pick up on having an ID for this. Have a look at any bolts, nuts, connectors to ID anything British. Hope it is Beaufighter, for families closure.
This is where this forum comes into its own. Best of luck M8.

Nice finds.
The Tail Wheel and main wheel would look good restored to static condition and if you have tyres for both, even better. Go back to other threads in here on Dunlop AH wheel finds and you can see what can be done. Glad to be able to assist.
Bill T.
Hi Nimgen,
Your Wheel Hub :- AH 8379 is off either:- A Sea Hornet–Sea Fury- Meteor– or FireBrand TF/1V. It’s a main wheel and according to my Dunlop list tyre sizes you also quote ( 32″x10″x15″ ) match exactly. I don’t know which MKs. of Meteor these hubs fitted but the Tyre size fits other Meteors too ie:- T7–F8–u15-TT20. So I would assume that it would be earlier Meteors.
Main Wheel hubs AH 8208 were fitted to the (Normal) Hornet.and these were tyre sizes:- 30″x9″x15″. Hope this helps.

Hello Bob,
I’ve still got a few bits kicking around from the time of my ownership of WV-903. If you could post back in here on exactly what bits the Museum SeaHawk needs, then guys and myself can go and look in sheds, etc. Part no’s and SECT/Ref’s help along with pics. of items if possible.

Hunter to Jordan.
Here’s a possible reason.
Back in 1972, when the Dhofar Wars were being waged in Oman, King Hussain of Jordan (a close pal of Sultan Qaboos ruler of Oman ) gifted a Sqdn of Hunter Mk 6 and 9 aircraft to Oman to assist in the Air War. They arrived (Flown in) along with spares package and Airworks set to scrapping the Mk 6’s and re-furbishing the Mk 9’s in very quick order to get them into the battle. They definately helped Oman to finish that war in 1976 and the Mk 9’s and some T Bird Hunters that came from errrrr–Kuwait ( I think) were kept on and used as front line Fighters till their retirement in 1993.
Most Hunters were sent out to different places as gate guardians, poss one to a museum and one ( T Bird) found its way to UK later. However– in 1993 One Mk 9 Hunter was fettled up and flown back to Jordan as a return gift to be flown in the Royal Jordanian Flight. I was working on those Hunters out at Thumrait at the time of retirement (Airworks) and although we saw that Mk9 off, we never got any feed back on what subsequently was done with it.
So it could possibly be XL577 is going out there for the same reason as that Mk 9 went there. Maybe there are plans to get it airborne again. Anyway, thats my guess !!!

Many Thanks !!!
Big thanks guys.

Hahahahaahah !!!!!! :D:D

Ha ha ha!!!
Surely tis better to be helpful than right all the time. Think I did pass this on in here many moons ago. Also a sense of humour always helps the medicine go down. John, have to grin at your post as I did at a fairly recent post in the Barracuda thread, nearly fell off my chair laughing at that one. :D:D
Bill T.
Right on M8 !!
Even to bring it up in large and small pieces is still feasible and makes the restoration more challenging. Provided costs aren’t ridiculously high. and a big poly tent will be needed for a while.

Hi Mike,
We must stop meeting like this !!! lol :very_drunk::D

H’mmm !! Amazing stuff getting washed up and dragged from dark places.
Quite a while since I last looked in here at this thread and it just gets more interesting as time goes by. So after perusing these pages for last hour, whilst refreshing the inner man, here’s what I’ve picked up on.
Going back to October 2013 posts 115 and 116 the pics. that have a piece of ally channeling with what looks like a rusty steel “Crank” attached,( with lightening holes in) look to me very much like some sort of/part of a Flap hinge or dive brake and associated structure. I would say the “Crank ” was fastened to flap/dive brake and the threaded rod screwed into the main pivot fixed in to a/c structure. My hunch is its WW2 period.
Post 177 looks like a bladder out of an airmans lifejacket.
Post 178 Brataccas, looks exactly like a Canberra Yellow fibreglass PSP Ejection seat Pack I owned once, Mine fitted the Martin Baker Mk 2CLA Ejection seat which was sold on. Think I still have some pics. of it , so will search em out. 1989 was still a good year for Canberra’s operations so whether yours was from an ejection or dumped at sea, I’m sure the slueths in here will come up with more info. Could you post some pics. of your 2nd PSP found and any info with it, thanks !!! You must have a very full shed by now –:D;)

OAK 14 Looks to me like this is from RAF Oakington. So what used to fly out of there ? The set is quite complete too with what looks like independant toe braking. Nice piece of kit for someones C/pit project once ID’d.

“Widget” looks like an early MB Seat Main G** Tube Locking Unit.
Just a couple of parts that got left out of the last update due to preparation for Newark Indoor Aeroboot.
Ejection Seat Widget
The label tells us everything except what the part actually does. The Stores Ref. is 27L/188 and the description is Plunger Housing. The other side of the label states “redundant from Mod. 655 IAW AP4288 Vol. 2 Leaflet B217. The label is dated November, 1959.
So, a fairly early part from an ejection seat but can anyone shed more light, please?

Ventilation device
Absolutely clueless about this one. I’d guess it to be American, but I haven’t been able to find any Part Numbers yet.
Cees, the gun cradle is actually from a FN82 rear turret (postwar Lancs). I still think the “mystery control column top” is just that. I’ll try to take some better pictures and look for Part Numbers when time allows.

Hi Alan,
First Pic. on this page (item 27L/188 ) is almost certainly a lower, lock/Latch unit that fits the Martin Baker Mk’s 1-2-3 Ejection seats. It locks the Main G** into position on the seat frame. Its a spring loaded “Catch” that can be withdrawn for servicing purposes. In your pic. that transverse bar,(Which I think is just a “Transit” keep would be removed and a spring clip (probably–27L/578 Ring–Finger. ) clipped on to aid latch withdrawal.
These Mks of MB Seats also have a top Latching Sub Assy. that fits into the Top Frame Beam and locates top G** Tube assy. ( 27L/1726).
These “Units” are only Classed as:- “Sub Assemblies”, in my MB Spares List ( Faint Photo Copy ) so what is quoted here are the housings only, wheras your “Unit” in pic. is ,(I’m sure) a Ref. for a complete unit. The top Latching Units have a “Fin” on,(for want of a better word,( so that makes yours a Middle or Lower unit.
And my next question is:- Could i have that item off you please ? :love-struck: As my “Middle Unit” on one of my Valiant seats is corroded and S****** !!!
Forumite:- Ian will confirm that, as seat came from him and before that it spent 15 years leaning against a tree in a Paintball Park in Bristol. That was a classic rescue by a forum member.
Many thanks ,( have PM’d you as well )
