Just one of those things I guess.

Some helicopters, S61 for example you board from the right side – there are only emergency exits on the left hand side of the aircraft. The BV234 was the same, main entrance on the right side, although you could board via the ramp, at the rear. Most other helicopters you can board on either side, left or right.

Like Whiskey Delta, I suspect its related to which side the Captain sits, fixed wing on the left, helicopters on the right.

Maybe I should start raiding the skip at work, then again there’s enough aircraft junk in my workshop.

Joking aside, there was a tv series on Discovery Wings about a firm in the USA that created furniture pieces out of aircraft parts. They made some beautiful pieces of furniture – including a glass topped table, made from a DC4 or DC6 rudder.

No doubt a lot of money could be made with that sort of thing.

Well, there we go then, wonder who that could be for!?! 😉

Well our mob were down there today for the demo, however the rumours doing the rounds as to who would be the likely recipient, would raise some eyebrows!!!

Although totally illogical nowadays, it did happen.

I’ve posted this before, but circa 15 years ago, whilst following a long standing ‘local rumour’ of aircraft being pushed into a Loch around 1945/46, we literally walked into a pile of very substantial aircraft parts, before getting anyway near the water’s edge.

Judging by the bent and twisted wing spares, it was suspected that a number of airframes were bulldozed into a pile and buried/set alight. The absence of aluminium strengthened the ‘set alight’ theory, although we found a few parts, that were half buried, in remarkably good condition. Amazingly the wing folding mechanisms, whilst corroded solid, the steel parts were still as clean as the day they left the factory.

A national musuem were very interested in the site, but the costs and location, mean’t that it was very unlikely that anything would be excavated.

I found that online shop late last night.

I did get an email from the main US distributor who said that an international version should be out sometime this autumn. It also now appears to be possible to purchase the Region 1 version, as there were apparently some copyright/legal issues, which is why it was only avail in the US.

I’m I the only one wondering what the fuss is all about, after watching said documentary?

The emphasis appeared to be on finding Bader’s Spitfire, rather than an indepth look at the events surrounding his ‘misfortune’ on that fateful day in 1941. It seemed that only five minutes was devoted to the ‘friendly fire’ theory.

Maybe they should have retitled the documentary as “The Search for Bader’s Spitfire”. The digs themselves, with Mark12’s cameo apearance, were extremely interesting.

If anything the highlight of the programme was when Don Bostock’s widow received his flying helmet and goggles. A very touching gesture.

Thanks for the comments folks, its very much appreciated. I’ve only had the camera just under two weeks, so still getting to grips with it.

What day at ABZ is the best to go up and view? I have always been there just to drop someone off, or fly out so never had the chance to go watch some planes!

Basically the airport is busy all day long, during the week – a lot quieter on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Thanks for the comments Tom. I was up on the hill by Overton Scrappy, the unclassified roard that runs parallel to the main road.

Already got a battery grip and I did find it made a bit of difference in the way the camera handles. A most worthwhile investment.
